I was wondering if anyone recently got their cdl in Illinois if so did you have to double clutch it or single? im only asking this because my school is teaching us how to single clutch it and I asked them if that's how we have to do it during the state exam and they told me yes

Single clutch on an 18 wheeler? It's better to float em then lol. Never heard of this

Single Clutch? Really?
-
Okay, just when you thought you heard everything, someone throws another one out there. How do you single clutch? Actually I never used a clutch during my test or any road tests that I can remember. Only to stop and start. The rest of the time I shift without it. There are exceptions. I never had anyone say anything to me.

Yeah, you can single clutch, however, you'll lose RPM's by the time you're trying to get it in gear, so you'll need to "goose" the throttle to complete the shift. Remember, single clutch on a truck ain't like single clutch on your Honda civic.

When I got my cdl 2 years ago or maybe 3 can't remember we double clutched it.

I do not have any idea how single clutching would work when you have to match road speed to proper gear speed.. with the engine disconnected from the drive line... how does this happen?

Looking at this I'm trying hard to remember when I took the test for a class 3 pre CDL and can't even remember what I did if I floated or not. Wow I am either getting old or getting Alzheimer's. lol
Jseney12078 Thanks this.
