It depends on how go the operator loading or unloading you is. Channel will always bend before square tubing in that situation. I don't tak the cheap easy way out when my livelyhood is on the line.

Yep, I only carry 4' drop tarps. 24x16 and 28x16 with extra rings on the ends.

If u really want to be versatile, I would get some 24x24 machine tarps, with 2 of those you should be able to cover just about anything.

 

As you already have 3 piece lumber tarps, the center section can double as a steel tarp, as it is probably already 16X24. Add a second steel tarp that is 16X27 and a smoke tarp that measures at 10X12. This will cover most any flatbed load you come across without having to deal with a full set of lumber tarps, everytime.

 

It depends on what you haul. We are issued two lumber tarps, two steel tarps and a 16x16 with D rings on all four sides and I use that more then my lumber or steel tarps.

The load i'm getting moday is 22 pallets and I don't think I can fit them all on the bottom deck, so i had to go buy a 12x16 10mil from home depot for the top deck just incase. Having a 16x16 would have come in handy quite a few times now.

 

Mine do not as if I were to pick up a load that measured 48' long, by 4' high, it would require 56' of tarp to cover it to the deck. I can start with my 27 footer at the back, pulled down to the deck it would cover 23' of the load. Overlapping my 24 footer, by 6", I would then cover the next 23', leaving 2' exposed, which I would then cover with my 10'X12" smoke tarp. Or I would just use my 8'6" drop 3 piece lumber tarps and deal with the excess on the sides. As I do general freight, a load like that is rare. If I were doing loads like that, say something like drywall, flaps would be justified, to me.
