I'm glad this thread popped back up. I pulled a couple of examples talked about in this thread over the past month (catching the trailer on the framerail, tandem pins didn't lock). Today after I got settled in for my 10 hour, I got a couple phone calls saying I had damaged a light pole coming out of a receiver. Luckily, I wasn't charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Close to two years with no incidents and honestly my confidence is a bit shaken. Having one of those doubt yourself days, ya know?

Seeing this thread assures me I'm not alone. I agree that you're your own worst critic.

The tandem and trailer incident were minor because only I caught them. Today, I got smacked in the face on a mistake I didn't realize I had even made.

Thanks for being professionals. Tomorrow is a new day.

OK, you have had two incidents here. I'm sure you have learned from them. We all make mistakes on occasion, the person who claims to never make a mistake is either delusional, or a flat out liar. Hopefully though, we never make THE SAME mistake more than once!

I can tell you that a bottom feeder major that I used to work for, figured that if you had three incidents within a specified time frame, (I don't remember what that time frame was,) that you were do for a major accident. This wasn't just them pulling an idea out of their butts, but was backed up by company stats. Something to keep in mind.

Perhaps it would help if you quoted the person the person that "should get out of trucking."

Thanks for your honest sharing about your dumb mistake. I have had mine as well and just thank God no one got hurt by them, and then place a note in my mental filing system to make sure that one never happens again. I am an experienced and very safety minded driver but still have my list of mistakes that make me just shudder and shake my head at my stupidity. Most of mine happen when I am in a hurry and ignore those checklists that I usually run through when I am doing any task. Lesson....slow down, especially when you are in a hurry.

This was in september of 2012, but i watched my boss hook up his pup loaded with. 86k steel coil. I already had my lead hooked to my pup so i went oi help the boss.. he backed his lean under the pup did a tug test and i hooked the lines he did the rest. I followed him for about 200 yards through the very rough dirt lot and he turned right into US 12 heading east but his pup kept going north.

Luckily no one was coming in the other direction.. we aired up the 2 tags and cranked that dang thing for what seemed like an hour before we were able to felt it hooked back to the lead.

Took me, my boss, and 2 other drivers who we ran with to crank and crank and crank... i think my arms felt like rubber bands for 3 days after that.
