Schneider is also working some fracking areas in the northeast. A bunch of Schneider drivers from Texas was sent up there in the last year or so and the pay is well under what others are earning for doing the same job. Check what they start their tanker drivers at to get an idea just how much below scale the company pays.

Don't know if you considered it yet, but living in Oregon, why don't you check the Williston area in North Dakota for a job that will pay well above and beyond what you will earn at Schneider since you have some experience? Heck, many drivers are hired right over the Internet and have a good paying job waiting for them when they arrive. Not saying you can't snag a gig with Schneider in Texas but you'll make way more with another company.

Because Schneider is one of the few companies that will let an inexperienced driver drive to gain that experience Each new guy to the industry needs a break and Schneider is one of those companies that will give them a chance

This is exactly why I'm trying to go to work for Schneider, I'm just trying to get oil field experience. I'm driving OTR now and I don't have ANY off-road or oil field driving experience and I don't live in Texas or North Dakota. Furthermore, oh yes I have heard it all; just show up in North Dakota and you can get a job.

Well I'm not going to quit the "good" job I have now until another company tells me they will hire me. Schneider is the ONLY company that has told me they will give me a conditional offer of employment BEFORE I leave my current company.

I have applied at ALL the major energy and oil production companies that everyone suggested in the forums here. And have been told 6-8 times that without living in Texas and having local oil field or off-road driving experience they will not hire me.

Schneider also has a sign on bonus of about $2700, it's actually broken down into three $900 payment. First payment is after you complete training and orientation, second is after 90 days and the third is after about 120 days, or something like that.

Thanks everyone for your input, but I'd really like an opinion from someone working for Schneider now driving the Frac Sand trucks.

    Thanks in advance,

    Uncle Ben

I worked the sand account for 9 months. I left because of the micro management, and change in pay scalet. I enjoyed the account as we not only did sand. It is a good account to gain oilfield experience. Like most others you will probably move on between 3-9 mos. Anyhow I wish you the best

I just went through the hiring process with Schneider for the San Antonio oilfield position. You are actually hauling frac sand if hired in San Antonio. The Corpus Christi are is for hauling oil. Schneider pays a daily rate which ranges from $147-$182(or 187, can't remember). This actually sucks for oilfield work. I actually called them back and politely thanked them for the offer, but declined it. You are much better off working for a company who pays an hourly rate. In South Texas the hourly rates range from $17 to $26. The beauty of working on an hourly rate is the more you work, the more you make, obviously. If you find a company who is kicking butt, you can get your 70 hours a week. That gives you 60hrs of OT, each paycheck. That is GREAT money!!! Some other companies pay by the load, or a % of what the truck makes. That sucks when you consider being held up at a site, traffic, the weather, whatever...I personally worked for Nabors in South Texas and was making a killing till they lost their account with Marathon. Actually, they were knocked off the #1 position in who Marathon calls first. So we went from working as much as we wanted to barely getting 40 hours, at least at the yard I worked at, which was the Kenedy yard. Anyway, like others have said, if you want to get your foot in the door, and get some oilfield experience, take your first offer and learn as much as you can. You will get the experience, make some connections, and six months to a year down the road will basically be able to go where you want. If you are looking to go to South Texas, look at Nabors, Select, or Goldspur. Select pays the most and they are extremely busy. Nabors is the biggest company of the three with about 40,000 employees. You are treated like a number working for a company that size, but as long as your paycheck is there every two weeks, who cares. Also, consider if you don't have any oilfield or oil/fuel hauling experience, you most likely will have to start out hauling water. It's the same thing, you just work a bit harder, and make a bit less. With water there are disposal sites everywhere, the condensate(oil) haulers have to drive further, hence less work as they aren't able to make as many trips per shift. In regards to pay, at Nabors water haulers started at $18, and oil haulers start at $25. So, actually that is quite a bit more, especially when you start adding the OT up. If you get your full 70 hours at $18 an hour you will take home roughly $2500 every two weeks, that's AFTER taxes, depending on what you claim, and insurance options of course. Anyway, I'm getting long winded so I'll cut this off here. I'm not sure if any of this helps, I just get tired of people talking, but not saying anything. Good luck to you all.

My problem is that I basically have no experience other than my 1 year of OTR driving. I have spoken to Nabors, Select and Goldspur. Nabors told me they would not hire me unless I lived in Texas and had a Texas CDL. Select told me they want or prefer drivers that already have oil field experience, they were not interested either because I live in Oregon. Goldspur required 2 years of experience, I only have 1 year.

Like I was saying in my other posts, I'm just trying to get a entry-level oil field job. I only have 1 year of driving experience, I'm a still a virgin newbie toddler trucker, what's that pedal on the left do again?

Once I get to Texas and get my foot in the door with Schneider I may consider other options, but thanks for the input....

So I just got off the phone with Schneider and completed my phone interview. I was given a conditional offer of employment and a date to be in Dallas, TX for orientation. Well at least I've got my foot in the door...
