Egr cooler & valve issue

    Ok, I have read numerous posts about blocking the egr valve and egr cooler on the mercedes mbe 4000. I would like to try and tie all the information together. From what I can tell you can achieve this by useing frost plugs and machining a block off plate for the egr valve. As far as I can tell this can be done with no check engine lights or codes? If anyone has done either of these 2 things your response would be much appreciated. I am currently having to decide on replacing my egr cooler and valve at a cost of more than $2500 or just block them off and get on the road. Any info on this thread will help as I have been collecting lots of un-specific info from many different threads. Thank you.

    i have blocked the egr valve with a piece of aluminum pipe. so far i have gotten about 30000 miles on it and no issues yet. before i did that the water temp would run at 195, 198 consistently. with the egr valve blocked the water temp is at 180 degrees. i noticed that the truck has more power now and WILL NOT OVERHEAT. i have torn apart and redone the top-end of that motor 3 times; once by the shop and twice by me. so far so good. oh and dont try to get good fuel mileage from the mbe 4000 because it just wont happen.

    The MBE4000 is just like any other motor ever produced, some guys love them and some guys hate them, some guys get 7mpg+ & some guys struggle to get 5mpg & no matter what brand of motor you have your always going to have some sort of mechanical problems along the way, so all you can do is just drive the #### thing or trade it off for something else.
