Well i took a chance and it may be a dud.My Styker blew up on me and has been to the shop 4 times.I had all i could handle with the Styker this last time and i traded it in for a Connex 4600 Turbo.I gave to guy my Styker(issues) and an old old Cobra, plus 100.00.He in turn gave me a so called brand new Connex 4600.It seemed to work wonderful until i was 100 miles away from him..Typical right.?..Then the ''issues'' started after about 100 miles.
My match is 1-1 and i have all new studs, coax and wilson 2000.Once i was away from this CB SHOP 23 in Ohio,i noticed that the ''linear'' on the bottom is ALWAYS VERY HOT...!!!!..Even when i DO NOT KEY UP FOR OVER AN HOUR.Does anyone have any ideas..?
I called him back and low and behold i felt like i was to blame. He re-routed all he could to make it appear to be my issue. So after going round and round i was told to bring the radio back.Easier said than done.I may not be back through for a month or two,if ever.So i told him i would drop it in the UPS box and ship it back so he can see whats wrong or if it is a manufacture defect.I said ok.
I then told him i would put stop payment on my credit card until work is done and the radio is working like it should.I called my bank and they are going to fight for me...
Now i have a radio that is yet broke again....I should change my handle to ''breaker 1-9''..
...I do not dare key up because it is hot.So i just listen for bear reports until i can get this shipped out and taken care off..Meanwhile i have no radio (again) and i wonder if anyone may no what could be wrong...
To be honest i have had nothing but issues inside a truck with these so called ''Hi powered'' radios.STYKER(2),RCI(1)GALAXY(2)CONNEX 4600 turbo(1)..I miss my Cobra 29 classic with my texas star amp.I never in 20 years had issues with that set up.Not to mention i could talk for miles and miles and shoot skip to Jamaca withthat set up....I think i am going back to a Cobra and a dave made..I should of never swaped this out in the first place...Lesson learned-If it ain't broke DON'T FIX IT.
Thanks...

I wonder if there's a keying relay on the built in amp that is staying in the closed position?
The amp should not be hot unless it's transmitting for a long time.
I wouldn't mind that 4600. Problems or not. But yes those all in one radios like your 4600, while nice, do have their problems. Overpriced is one of them.landstar8891 Thanks this. -
Still HOT after 2 hours and i have not talked one time on it....Any ideas WHY...?...The linear on the bottom is hot..
-
Something is going on with it for sure.
Just in receive mode it should not be pulling enough power to get hot.
It should be less than 2 amps.......
I agree with Turbo-T some kind of relay stuck or another problem in the amp part of the radio.
That really sucks too on a new radio.....feel for ya driver! -
I just got a phone call.He told me to look in the radio to see if the ''R249'' is clipped.I opened it up and it WAS CLIPPED.
I have it unplugged right now and it is cold again. As soon as i plug it in,it will be hot without even kee-ing mike within 10 minutes.
He seemed very nice to me on the phone 10 minutes ago.He is going to send it back to CONNEX and give me a new Galaxy 47 HP..I agreed to this and i should have a 47 HP by wednesday morning. At this point i just want a reliable radio.Money is not the issue here.I am tired of messing around with screwed up radios...
-
If I can't get this deal resolved i would give it to you for another good decent radio...I just want a radio at this point with at least 100 watts that works and is reliable...
-
The Galaxy 47HP will do 100 watts......probably swing 125,
Not quite the power of the 4600 but should do a good job.
I love my 94HP! Very loud and clear audio and swings 135 or so.landstar8891 Thanks this. -
There are really only a couple of things that could make this happen..
One is that sometimes when techs fix these " And I don't know if it was ever fixed " But they don't always put everything back just the way it was supposed to be I often seen drivers bring these in after being repaired and they forgot to put the feedback circuits back in after replacing the Transistors. But like I said if it was supposed to be new then that would not be the issue.
Another is that it could be staying keyed up. One way you may this is if you unplug it for a few seconds with the radio turned on. then turn the radio of and plug the cord back in and see if stays hot. Pay attention to you amp gauge on the truck it may not be able to show much defeletion but it should not show any when the radio is just in rec mode. These are only thing to look out for while performing the unpluging test.. The reason you unplug it from power instead of just turning it off is because the amp transistors will always be hot with 13.8 volts or what ever the battery or Alternator voltage is at the moment.
Another possibility is that you could have Collector to Emitter leakage but that would most likely not be it unless all the transistors had the leak as just one would not likely generate much heat..landstar8891 Thanks this. -
I had a connexx 3400-HP but for some reason it'd randomly switch bands and every time you started the truck it switch too. I just worked around it..

I am doing the ''unplug'' trick as we speak.I will watch and see what happens here..thanks.
