Does it matter what order the brake checks are done in. Ive heard test trailor and tractor brakes first and test leakage and warning light, and spring brakes 2nd......ive also heard to test my leakage, buzzer/spring brakes before i attempt to move thr vehicle to test for tractor and trailer supply...testing at charlotte. Any N,C drivers know ? Proper order or will it matter ? As long as i tell inspector what im doing

Search youtube. There is at least one video that I know of that covers it step by step. I'd post the link but I don't think the company that posted it should get the free advertisement.

A pti doesn't have to be in any certain order. It just has to be completed. It's just taught that way in sequence because it's more efficient and easier to remember. The inspector is looking to see you know what you are talking about. Once you get outside the cab you won't actually do a pti but tell him what you would look at and what for. Just point at everything and say you look for it being cracked or broken. By the end of one side their mind wonders somewhere else. They are thinking about dinner or something, lol.

The main thing they look for is that air pressure builds to at least 100 psi and cuts off by 125 psi.

Next shut the truck off and turn key to ON position for the buzzer. Put your foot on the brake and make sure it doesn't drop 4 psi in one minute. Tell him what you are doing as you do it. He might say okay instead of waiting a minute.

Next is taking your foot off the brake. It shouldn't drop more than 3 psi in one minute.

Next fan (pump) the brakes. The buzzer/light should come on before 60 psi.

Next, continue fanning the brakes. The buttons should pop out between 40 -20 psi.

The only other thing I can thing of is air pressure build up rate. At idle it is suppose to raise from 85-100 psi with in 45 seconds. Tell him that when you first build pressure or rebuild pressure.

Do that and you'll pass the in cab brake part. Don't forget the other in cab controls.
