Accepting personal responsibility is not being walked on. When the employer/employee relations turns sour a choice needs to be made, either the company needs to term the driver or the driver needs to term the company.

When you plow into a minivan filled with a family due to texting and get sent to prison for manslaughter that is accepting responsibility. When you sideswipe your mirror backing into an underground dock, you shouldn't be punished with losing a weeks pay. Maybe I'm alone here, but when a company screws up and for example sends two drivers to pick up one load, do they pay other driver extra who got screwed out of the load and the 3 hours he wasted? Didn't think so.

If you own or are leasing the truck then you should pay he damage on the truck. You did it, you pay for it. If you're a company driver the company pays it, you'll get a talking to probably throw out a G.O.A.L. or two regardless of the situation and it will noted in your file. If you continue to rip your mirrors off or have other such events you'll be terminated.

If I sent two drivers to get a load we'd pay both drivers for going to get it and the other driver would get compensated for going over to pick up his next load. If I continue to send two drivers for the same load I will not have a job. If the owner does he'll pay it, but he'll continue to have a job. It comes down to your position with the company, owner/LP you assume the responsibility, company driver/employee company assumes responsibility however if you continue down that path you'll no longer be employed.

That's why you have insurance. Sounds to me like any company that tries to charge drivers for damage is not going through insurance. Maybe they don't want to pay a higher deductible for the next accident, but if you have insurance there's no reason to charge a driver $$$ to repair damages, even if it is the drivers fault.

If a company pays for insurance it is intended to cover certain incidents but not for lack of responsibility on the company or driver, I guarantee that if a driver had to pay for the insurance and all expenses they would pay better attention to what they are doing.

The excuse, it's not my truck or problem is part of the problem today.

Lack of responsibility for ones own actions.

I never sold cars. I was a service and parts director.
I did very well but I got tired of not sleeping at night. I'm one of those guys that can't turn work off when I leave for the day.

I've had several opportunities to go back but I'm having too much fun doing this.

You've got the wrong idea of what insurance is and does. Even if the driver is at fault, they shouldn't be charged with a repair. I would never drive for a company that does this. Would you pay for your own car repairs if you totaled it and were at fault? I think not. You would be quite stupid. Why even bother getting insurance if you don't use it?

that is one of the biggest problems today, believe it of not there was day when the driver paid for their mistakes out of their own pocket, for respect and pride.

Because back in the day, it wasn't illegal to not have insurance.
