I'm glad it's working for you, Wrecker. I wonder, how many 6 figure jobs are out there? I'd love to find one. I'm glad you're not perfect...if you were you might be making $250,000. No one is perfect, I don't think that's a question. Ghost is right, it's still not finished. Wrecker is right as well, it's easy to judge when you're not the one in trouble. It's just a discussion for us, chill out. We know that, I think most of us know we're not judges. This must be an important trucking issue, judging from many responses. :)

The investigation is over and done with. The news media just likes to "punch up" the story to get more to read it. No charges have come from this. Now to settle something else most of you have to seemed to assume about me. I do feel remorse for what happened. I spent over 2 months in counseling to help with all that I was feeling. It has effected me greatly. I also have come to realize that mistakes were made both with me and the other driver. Now the people in the front of the vehicle survived bc of wearing their seatbelts. The person that died chose to not have it on. Probably would have been different outcome for this person if they were wearing the seatbelt (required by law anyways). I have had to move on from this. I have no choice but to get out there and do what I can to provide for my family. Sorry if my main concern is about the welfare of my wife and kids. I do feel sorry for the family of the deceased but like I said different decisions could have been made on their part and would most likely still be here. I thank the people on here that have understood what I was asking advice for on here. I do not care for those that just want to judge me. Sooner or later you will be in a situation like mine. And if you are one of those on here that think they are perfect and can never do no wrong out on the road.... Karma will catch up with you eventually and will take a big bite out of your ###. Mistakes can and do happen to everyone.... You are narrow minded and nieve to think you are exempt from this ever happening.

Best bet is let a few years go by to let it fall off your driving record then try again

First time I've read this thread. Yes accidents can happen to anyone. But a driver can have bad habits that makes him a higher risk or a greater probability of odds of getting in an accident.

What I get out of this thread is you are constantly on the defensive without accepting any responsibility until your last post just a wee little bit. The facts are you pulled in front of them and was charged and at fault. Yes, Failure to Yield is a charge even though you want to downplay it to just a ticket. It's a statement of who's at fault.

You said you didn't see them yet you knew how fast they were going?

You said it was a blind intersection and a blind hill there. That's the beauty of Google Earth. It is flat ground and zero obstacles by the road. There's a small hump 1500 feet to the south. That's a quarter mile or about 13 seconds if they were doing 70.

It's five lanes to cross that road. One of them type intersections you might have to wait 5 minutes for the right opportunity. Unless you are impatient and shooting the gap in a slug of a vehicle. The way you tell your story putting blame on them and stretching the truth makes me wonder.

Your looking at least 3 years before most give you a chance. That doesn't mean there isn't someone out there. I'd say your best bet is a small outfit like someone that has two dump trucks.

Have you talked with the victim's family?

This is long over and done with. I knew the speed limit of the area and assumed what they were doing. I never saw them because of being on the passenger side of the truck and having the driver side pillar of the windshield as a blocker. I did sit at this intersection for a long time waiting for the right time to cross and perceived it to be clear when I attempted it. I was never allowed to talk to the victim's family because of the lawyers and such involved in the matter. That intersection has been a problem one for many years and has been proposed for a red light there (or other traffic control). There is a tree that hangs over into the roadway directly to the south of the intersection and unless you are there to see what I saw..... you have no grounds to say anything about it. Google earth isn't that perceptive.

Anyways... how many states have the click it or ticket law? It probably would have turned out differently if this person had been following the law and wearing it. And it was also required by the driver of the van anyways as it was medical transport van. It was the driver of the van professional duty to make sure everyone in their vehicle was properly belted in before even driving an inch. But all yall want to do is point out how everything is 100% my fault. I do own up to my part. I also do realize that other people have to be held responsible for their part as well.

And since all this.... I have had a job driving OTR. I was running 2000+ miles a week on the roads with all of yall. I have since left that job bc of lack of getting paid on time and getting money deducted from my pay for no reasons explained. But for all yall that think your a super trucker and only want to view this incident one way.... you will be hoping for more to just listen rather than judge when it happens to you. And if you think that it wont or cant happen to you...... You are extremely small minded and will suffer a great fate.

I guess some people just can't remember those left turns from a stop sign, and the road they are turning onto is at a 45 degree angle (or maybe a blind turn) and they can't actually SEE what is coming because they simply could not turn the cab enough to see at that angle.

The wide-angle fender mirrors help some, but I have had to just trust no one was coming and proceed very slowly in the hopes that they would be able to slow down before I hit them (if someone was there).

It's easy to judge negatively when you don't consider your own experiences of 'luck'.
