I grew up in New England and saw Autocars roll on my street daily . Sorry , but I don't consider the Autocar badged trucks after 1980 to be real Autocars . Here's one from the company that employed my father and uncle . They also had many B Model Macks and chain drive Sterlings .

Well I guess to some point a true Autocar was the Drivers Cab, which did continue on in Utah until 87, but nobody can deny that the spirit and design continued on until 2001 Volvo sold the name to become a refuse truck. The Volvo Autocar/White's are still a very heavy spec reliable truck, you could well argue made better & improved with Volvo's tech & manufacturing capability. You could say the same thing re Mack's - KW & Pete's none of which are built as tough and reliable as the earlier models.

Oh , I agree newer is "better" . A new Chevy Impala will be faster through the 1/4 mile and handle and stop better than a '63 Impala 409 . It's not the more desirable though .

Couple things I discovered today, it's had an engine change, not that surprising really, guess that explains engine date code 83 in an 85 truck. So it's TA version not TTA, which in some ways is better (less governor bhp / torque controls) and the engine was originally from industrial application so until I get home and remove and inspect Governor and fuel racks I won't know what spec I'm dealing with. I need to replace the power steering pump, after research I have to buy mail order as nobody local to me understands what they are selling even though they claim to be heavy truck specialist ?

So here is my short to do list for the home bound trip:-
    1. Change oil Delo 100 40wt, filters, coolant
    2. Pull steering pump to identify replacement (as their are 2 shaft lengths)
    3. Adjust brakes and steering box free play (may need replacement)
    4. Install my 425/65-22.5 super singles on front, then I can select best tires for rear
    5. Clean interior, mice evidence + I'm a total neat freak + don't want risk a virus

So this means I will have to make 2nd trip as I have to wait 1 week for the pump

Couple of you asked what is my plan for the Acar briefly .......!!!!!!!
    Upgrade engine to 600bhp
    Allison auto HT754 CRD
Spicer 1750 brownie box auxiliary trans
4.30 rear gears, either install No-Spin Detroit Locking diffs or change rear to late model Volvo T- Ride with double lockers
Muncie live pack crank driven PTO pump and ex Mil 45k Tulsa winch
Ex- Mil oscillating 5th wheel / ramps
Oil Field bumper / headache rack
    Custom square alloy tanks
    445/65-22.5 XZl's drive tires on Alcoa's
    Mustang 2012 Boss 302 Blue painted cab-chassis-driveline
    Black interior

I bought some sales brochures via ebay, discovered that the Autocar Construcktor 2 was a re-branded / improved version of the White Roadboss 2, Volvo/autocar refers to the Roadboss as RB2 & the Construcktor 2 as K.
I have photographed the most interesting pages of these brochures
