One thing you might want to check on concerning your wife. I remember reading sometime back that you must be licensed for 5 years before you can get a CDL. Don't know how that works for all the other foreign drivers we see out here now.

I am currently engaged to a Filipina and have the K-1 visa paperwok in process. I am hoping she will be here by November.

If you want a foreign bride, my suggestion is to spend about 6 months in a foreign country ( China would be a good choice ) and they'll find you.

I moved down to South Carolina from Alberta in Oct/04.
My Canadian CDL expired before I was granted my permanent Green Card.
All I had to do was get a car driver's license first so that I could get a CDL learner's permit to write the tests and do the road test (in my own truck) and have a current CDL holder ride with me down to the DMV to do the driving test.

The last 2 friends of mine that got Chinese brides had to get CR-1 visas. The embassy wouldn't approve K-1. I got a K-1 for mine, but that was several years ago. Maybe it's not that way in Philippines now. It caused them to make an extra trip to China, because they had to go back to USA and get "Authentication of Maritial Status" to prove they are single, then return to China and have a Chinese wedding. Then the embassy approved it, no problem. My guess is, it was just politics meddling in peoples personal affairs.

There was no way the consulate in Guangzhou was going to approve a K-1, visitor's or any other visa other than CR-1 for my wife. Once we decided to get the CR-1 in China it was a bit of a pain, but not as bad as it could have been since a lot of the people at the consulate knew us socially from my work, knew that our relationship was "real" and not a mail order bride scenario. I think the reluctance to issue K-1 visas stems from the mail order bride deal. One needs to go into this foreign wife deal with their eyes open. I've had a couple of friends not survive the relationship.

My neighbor in Palm Springs area had a mail-order bride from Russia. It didn't work out and he was sending her back, however she refused and solicited the gardner to kill him ! The gardner actually showed up at 11 pm to shoot him when he answered his door, but my neighbor had his weapon at the ready and shot the gardner. And yes, the mail order bride ended up in jail.

Talk about a worst case scenario, Allow Me. Poor guy probably spent obscene amounts of cash to get her here and all, just to have a hit placed on him. Though I suppose the 10k question is did he order up another or did he move on to different avenues?
