Does Maverick go west at all? like Alberta Canada.
-
I don't know about flatbed, TCD has a regular run that goes from Tulsa, OK to Edmonton, AB then back to Denver, CO.
We used to have a run to Seattle and British Columbia but I think the customer stopped running that load. -
I run Glass and just ran to Calgary, AB 2 weeks ago. I ran into 3 other Maverick drivers from the Glass division up that way at the same time as I was up there.

Thank you for the info.

First I want to say thanks to all the Maverick employees who post and help out prospective noobs.
It looks like I am going to get laid-off in mid June. I want to make the jump to the trucking industry if it happens. Have always liked logistics. Have found the answers to most questions I have as I narrow things down (basically down to 2 companies), but seem to be missing just a few items I have having trouble finding:
1) Vacation time with Maverick? How does it accumulate? Basically what earning vacation looks like.
2) Does Maverick have performance pay? Extra CPM if you run more then "x" number of miles in a week? How often are you able to make that many miles? Can you make it in a typical week?
3) Safety bonus? CPM quartely?
4) I admit i am torn between flatbed or TCD. Thats a decision for the future. But if I have it right in general, once I work through the training and earn the blessing to go solo - .33cpm until i have been solo for 3 mos, then .36cpm until I am solo for 6 mos, then .39cpm for 6 mos to 1 yr. After that it would be .01cpm increase each year 5 years? So after 1 year I would be making .40cpm if my scribbling is correct?
5) In either division would running a household budget based on 1800 miles a week be a safe proposition. I know there will be some weeks that just go wrong (breakdowns, typhoons, locust, etc.) but is that a safe fair estimate. If you think that number should be adjusted up or down what would you suggest?
Again guys, thanks so much for taking the time!! -
I hope that helps a bit!
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! I can answer any TCD questions you have, and there are a bunch of flatbed and glass guys on here that can help also.
Maverick does ave specific hiring areas, where do you live?Coragran and sarge26044 Thank this. -
Oh, I forgot to mention that a week below 2,000 miles is under the company goal unless freight is slow in general. If you're willing to run and not having a bunch of issues, you should get closer to 2500 per week in TCD.
I know that for us, running under 2,000 per week in a continuous basis puts you on the radar and they'll look at what's going wrong and try to help you fix it. I like this system because it prevents someone who might be mad at you from screwing you over, at least not for very long. But I haven't ever had that issue, the CSRs I deal with are all pretty stand up guys. But it's nice to know we're kinda protected in a way.Coragran Thanks this. -
Thanks so much CaptainX3, exactly the info I was looking for! Just one clarification with the vacation: You only earn 1 week a year forever yes? So even after 10 years, it would still be 1 week paid vacation and then the 3 unpaid "specials" per quarter.
I live in Grove City, OH (a suburb of Columbus). About 1h45m or less from the Middleton, OH terminal. I checked on their website and according to the shaded maps I look good for 3 of the divisions. Background / driving and all the other checks wont be a problem, they are all clean. The physical shouldn't be an issue, the only thing I have is mild hypertension and it is well controlled with my meds and is below the DOT physical numbers. Now I just need to hit the gym a little more so those fitness test will be a piece of cake.....this office lifestyle I lead now is not conducive to staying in shape. (My bmi is below the 39 number I have seen thrown around, so I don't think that would be an issue either.)
Yeah, I am not afraid of work. I would be looking to run and for a long term company/career so that shouldn't be a problem. Everything looks great so far that I have seen. Small part of me actually hopes to get laid off......don't tell the wife =)
Do TCD or flatbed guys get through the Columbus area (I70 and I71) much?
On another note, if a Maverick driver ends up in the Columbus area for a load or break and has time to kill, I could offer a free meal at the location of your choice if I am off work for the honor of picking your brain and maybe the nickel tour of your ride. =)Last edited: Apr 8, 2013

Yeah, in Columbus, OH you should be in a great spot for all 3 divisions. TCD doesn't go into Ohio as much as flatbed does I believe, but all 3 divisions go through the area often enough that you won't have any home time issues.
I'm not 100% sure if its 1 week vacation forever or if that number increases as the years go by. One of the longer term drivers may be able to help with that info.
The physical isn't too bad. I know that 140/90 is the limit of blood pressure before you have to be checked out by a doctor, but since yours is preexisting and is already under control with meds it might not be an issue.
If your BMI is too high, you'll be given a sleep apnea test there at the terminal (Mav just started doing this) and if you need a machine they'll take care of it for you up front (you'll have to pay them back for the machine if they get it for you).
Be careful about offering free meals to us starving truck drivers, you might end up with the whole fleet at your doorstep lol. But I'm sure if a driver has time and is in that area, they'd take you up on the offer.
For TCD, our primary running areas are Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey. We also have some stuff in Oklahoma that goes to Canada.Coragran Thanks this.
