Or maybe excercise that left leg and use the clutch?

I'm pretty sure if I hear a bang it will be the transmission falling out:biggrin_25513:

let off the throttle a tad to about 1000-1100 rpm.
blip the throttle and at the same time use two fingers to push up on the shifter. It will slide right out and into the next gear in that window when road speed/rpms match.
If you get slight resistance on the lower gear, just give it a slight blip..

If it's grinding, you're trying to shift into the wrong gear, either too high or too low a gear. You need to figure this out, by experimenting. I suspect you're trying to downshift into 6th, for instance, instead of 7th. Or 7th, instead of 6th.

its hard for me to tell someone how to down shift. its just like anything else it just takes a little practice. about the time you quit looking at the tach your down shifting will be getting better.

Make sure your jake brake is off when down shifting, otherwise the rpms drop twice as fast as normal. You can flip it back on between shifts.....once you learn to down shift with the jake off, then you can try it with the jake on.

My best advise is to learn to shift properly first, and get really good at it to the point that you (almost :) ) never miss. after that floating up or down is not very hard.
