Did you end up at cal con? I've been looking in to nrt out of Turlock ca they have a terminal near the school I just have to finish before I can apply
-
Check with Gardner Transport or trucking....They've hired IITR grads before, as I was told by a Gardner driver himself as we stood on the shoulder of Hwy.20, waiting for ODOT to clear a fatal head on...Honda Civic vs. a loaded west bound chip truck. Safe to say the driver of the loaded chip truck walked away, wasn't his fault, anyway...That's what the Gardner driver said last summer, they've hired
newbies. Best of luck on that. Utilize the IITR services as well, you never know. -
I applied there when I had about 8 months of OTR and they said I'd need at least one year, said go ahead and fill out the app and call us when you get to the one year mark in a couple more months.

I started with May out of Brooks,OR and after 4 months signed on with Schneider for a regional gig (Dollar Tree) that got me home more often,at least once a week on Saturdays.
That job was really hard work and long hours but I did get home more often and they will hire drivers with just a few months OTR (3 months now I think, was 4 when I did it).
It was from Ridgefield,WA just out of Vancouver which was less than 30 minutes from my home.
I got on at Walsh hauling chips with 1 year experience, a year and a half later I'm still doing it,took a year to get day shift though. -
I wondered about that guy's story when he told it. Maybe the heat was getting to him and that splattered dead guy all over the road, being picked up by guy's in hazmat suits, just messed him up along with his reality of how he got his job. Sumpin' didn't add up.
Oh well, onward!!!! -
Well a quick update for all you guys that have been following this thread I have graduated the school and as of this morning passed my state test and Monday I will be going to DMV to get my paper temp license so local job apps will be filled out and then some. Thanks for the support guys!

Good for you! Now while it's fresh go get a yob!
I made it thru the grinder at SNI ( the Great Pumkin ) and one other guy did also from same class. Both will be out of the PDX termal! Thats one month at IITR and another at SNI training, don't think any of the big grinder training schools to be like IITR tho. All of the instructors at training don't care about where you came from or who, what, how you got your CDL! In ther eye's all of the schools are fly bye night types. Tho both of us did see the teaching (IITR) was far better then pretty much all of the rest of the FNG's! All I have to say Is stay the hell out of so-cal , it sucks balls! Tho did log allmost 2000miles in 6dys tho (Qualcom logged) , 95% of it was all done by me with the TE (asleep in seat). Drove in blinding dust storms and stopped for road closed due high winds , drove in wind like the gorge , up and down the vine ( NB/SB I-5 ) and bobed up the 101, stupid ### drivers , droped-n-hooked like crackheads at a free methadone clinic , hury up and wait , late three min and wait for two hr's , truck stop food ! Good exsperince over all , recomended to all new CDL grad's to try or atleast it's once. CeeyaLast edited: Apr 20, 2013
