With 3 years exp you should be starting at 37cpm so make sure you're getting that. We run longer trips than a lot of other FB carriers especially out east, so you'll be getting plenty of miles, 3000 or more is not unusual. We pull out of middletown at AK steel a lot so getting home shouldn't be an issue. I have nothing bad to say about swift FB, I enjoy it and am treated well, welcome aboard.

If you live in Ohio and have 3 years experience, I would question why you would want to work for Swift. You should be starting in the .40-.42/mi range. Remember open deck transportation is about working smarter not harder.

Yes, but you need to be setup to go flatbed before attending orientation. If you start out pulling vans you will have to wait ~6 months before you can do flatbed.

The second part of your post invalidates the first. What good is 40/42 cents per mile when you are running 500 mile loads? Thats a lot of work (loading and unloading once/twice per day). Some of the guys I went through swift FB traning with have since moved on to places like TMC, where they get paid more per mile on either flat cpm or %, but we still end up making the same money per week, and I'm the one working less. For instance, a buddy of mine with TMC is taking a steel coil from pittsburg to baltimore... and I'm taking a preloaded trailer form san diego to upstate new york. Who would you rather be?

I go home when I get burned out... could be 3 weeks or 3 months. Official swift policy is you can take 3 full days off without losing your truck, but on the flatbed fleet you can get away with quite a bit more, since there's not really a huge demand for FB trucks like there is with vans.
