Hey just curious if anybody has any experience getting caught out of their home state being under 21. I'm from Iowa and might be the only one able to go up by North Dakota to pick up a nurse trailer in time for planting. To make it worse I don't have a medical card because I basically only have a cdl to haul grain to the elevator. Does anybody know how bad it would be if I were to get caught in Minnesota with an Intrastate Exempt CDL and no medical card. Thanks for any info or scare stories just tryin to see how big of a risk it is.

That's a good question. You will be in violation, without a medical card and under age out of state. The question is, does a state cop have authority to cite you for the underage part, which is a Federal rule ? I suppose a gung-ho cop could shut you down. I wouldn't risk it.
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Ya that's what I was wondering if I would get shut down and have to make someone drive 500 miles to get home. Maybe i'm not computer smart enough to find it but I can't find any information on what would happen.

No medical card is automatic out of service, your CDL is not valid without one.
CondoCruiser and aiwiron Thank this. -
Years ago an underage driver at the company I worked at was caught and put out of service and fined.
It was for construction equipment and he was 3 states away.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Dang that would be a fun call to the boss man huh? Mine will be to my dad sayin hey if you want to spray your corn come get your stupid water hauler, haha.

2 Citations would be issued.
One for no valid medical card.
One for Underage Inter-State operation.
You would be out of service right there, would not be allowed to drive.CondoCruiser, the gambler, TRKRSHONEY and 2 others Thank this. -
A friend of mine was stopped in Illinois and found without a valid medical card. His just expired. Got a warning ticket but was told that the driver could now be put out of service, truck impounded and not able to be released until valid card is presented. He is owner operator dump truck.

That doesn't look good for me then never having one in the first place and being 19. Wonder how long it would take to go 500 miles on gravel. Thanks for the info guess we'll see what the decision comes out to be here in a few days.

Many state police are CVSA qualified . Ever notice how many OH bears sit in the median and pull trucks into rest areas for random inspections ? Also many state laws require a medical card and age 21 for commercial operation
