So as the title states I would like to haul on the weekends with my 2500 DD
Specs: 99 Cummins 5spd with all the necessary goodies, including a camper package and air bags
Thoughts?
Also this would be for my uncles company (local) I'm assuming I will have to have some sort of commercial insurance of my own?
Anything else you guys can point out?
And I have my class A and med card for clarification
Thanks in advance

Under 10,0001 lbs. GVWR and intrastate you're exempt from FMCSR . Hook a trailer and cross a state line you have to comply with HOS and log all hours worked on other jobs as on duty .

You will need motor carrier authority and a minimum of $750,000 auto liability insurance. Most shippers and brokers require $1 million liability and $100,000 cargo insurance. Insurance is not cheap, especially starting out. The problem with only running on weekends is that most shippers only work weekdays. Then there is the problem of finding freight that will get you back to your home base. Unless you can find something on both ends, you will find it difficult to make money only running part time on weekends. You can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $6,000-12,000/year for your insurance.

Alright so I would just start my log off at say 40hrs if I had worked 40 hrs that week at another job? If I'm over 10k or if I dont stay within the state?
Definitely didn't think about having to log my hours from another job lol -
Company in belleview hauls that kind of freight.
Check with them perhaps. -

Weekend hauling you're wasting your time after all the cost are taken in to consideration.
SHO-TYME Thanks this. -
So to keep the insurance on the truck just to use it 3 days a week isn't worth it? I have no idea how much it costs so any input is appreciated

Let's say your insurance costs you $5000 for the year, can you afford to pay that working 104 days a year, + fuel, maintanence, etc.
No offense, you'll make more getting a part time job on the weekends than doing this.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
If you're not careful those hours that you log will catch up with you too.....remember 70 in 8....you'll have to watch that re-cap real close.
