Hello, I'm Nick Davis, and on April 1st I start driving school at Indian Hills Community College in my hometown of Ottumwa, Iowa. I've been married for almost a year, and my wife intends on coming with me over the road (no kids). Trucking runs in my family, my dad, and two uncles were/are truckers. I'm very fortunate that Iowa Workforce Development and the Workforce Investment Act are funding my tuition ($1,800), fuel, physical, and food costs during school. When I start trucking I'll have the serious advantage of having almost no out of pocket costs (besides maps of course). I'll be blogging during school, orientation and training, and beyond. Before I decided to pursue a career in trucking, I worked as a sports producer for a local radio station, and as a media consultant for a local political campaign.
If you're in Iowa and have questions about getting funding from Iowa Workforce and Workforce Investment Act, please ask, it was a long process but completely worth it.
