No, he doesn't. With a carrier's permission, he can use the MC of that carrier, anyone who hires him to dispatch, is going to be giving him access to his private information anyways, so the step to use the MC# on a load board is, minimal at best.

If you are talking about just signing up on load board's, depends on the board.

What we were talking about is a carrier giving MC and password info to an independant dispatcher. This is a really really bad idea. I hope you're not suggesting it's no big deal for reasons I listed earlier.

Or, are you suggesting that DAT will allow him to open up an account using another carrier''s MC? Maybe but not sure about that. They were pretty sticky with me they wanted MC#, proof of insurance, authorities, banking references...the whole deal.

The way I did it was this. Carrier calls me to tell me he will be empty at XYZ on Wed. I posted his truck on DAT under my account. I made phone calls over the next 2-3 days. I weeded out the chaff until I found a good fit. When I call I tell the broker I am dispatch acting on behalf of a carrier who will be empty on Wed. I run the DH miles to pickup and the loaded miles and the DH miles anticipated after delivery. I negotiate price but do not commit. I call the truck give him the info and he makes all the commitments. He books the load and he Paypal's me 5%.

No reason for me to need access to his load board passwords. Only a fool gives that info out.

And when you run into a broker that that carrier isn't set up with yet? You need to send the authority, W9, insurance etc,

I have all of that on hand already, carrier I work with maintains his load board, I have mine, if I am having trouble finding him a load, I tell him, he looks around, and he will make the final call on a load if it's too weak for me to book without him.

What I was saying was that it's not a big deal for a dispatcher you hired, to have your authority, W9, insurance, etc as they will need that to set you up with any brokers etc.

Wasn't talking about load board passwords or financial information, both of those, I steer clear of.

Dispatchers have little grip on the real world of driving by guessing. Learn how it's done, before telling people how to do it. You will figure it out.

Exactly. Earlier on, perhaps you missed it because the post was deleted by the admins (even though it was valuable info to this discussion), the OP wanted me to furnish my loadboard password so he could look for loads for me. I said no he would have to get his own account, for which he might need an MC number.

No need to "learn how it's done." Have a good respect for what the driver does, and is telling you, and give him the load information, it's not rocket science to know that he can't drive from CAL to NY in 2 days, so don't take the load, nor is it rocket science to get the load information and pass it on, neither one of those things requires me to "know how it's done" in order to serve the driver.

It seems like in this day and age, adding someone into the system to handle situations on more of a customer service approach is what makes the easiest repeat clients. If O/Os don't want to deal with it asking a reasonable rate seems fair. In this day in age businesses come in many different shapes and forms. The value of business always changes when service is presented at different levels. Its commendable being a mobile business if you can do it well.

Just for the record, I have been driving forrrrr whatever it says up there^^^^ or <<<<over there, I have many many years of customer service as well as dispatching and putting less then a load together, This was a little different then what I have mentioned here but still the same guidelines, I am not going to steal from anyone I am working for, I think if they need to set up a password or acct. or whatever I would hope they wouldn't use a critical password or something they also use for their crucial accounts like ATM or Bank info.

Rank you are just skeptical of anything anyone else want to do, I see the glass half full and not half empty and then ask when is the waitress going to fill it back up, I wait till it is empty because if she is doing her job she will see it before it gets to be empty!!!

How would you be expected to get paid ? If your working off load boards, then there are some shady characters out there. Most pay 25-40 days but some are as high as 60. Are you expected to get "your take" before the driver does ? Are you willing to wait 25-60 days just like some O/O before you get paid? Unless of course a Factoring Co. is involved, then that's even another hand in the dough. If there is no Factoring Co. getting setup with new customers or Brokers , you are required to give them a remit address to send the checks. I myself wouldn't trust someone I don`t know with that much power. Some shady people out there , you know. I`m not trying to be so negative , just things to think about.

We have to think of the negative in things, as there are plenty out there that have done it or will do it.
