I hear you. I was talking to my Dad about this thing going on in Gary yesterday. He used to to be a real big supporter of the Steelworkers until he got the screws put to him when they weren't there to support the workers when the company he was working for was closing up shop.

Unions are pretty powerless these days. I was govt union for 26 yrs. Some of it is good but for the most part i think we are better off and more efficient without them. Seems like a lot of things in the work place here at Roehl are posted in the DRG so not much different than a union contract. Roehl seems to pay and stay consistent to its policy. If one doesnt like the program, pickup and move on. Very rare to have any company with a pension anymore..all 401k. I think you will see less career people as time goes on..not a lot of incentive for retention. There is a reefer co. A little sister of prime i think that offers a $10k bonus for staying with company five years..i thought that was quite novel, just.not interested in reefer. Good thing about driving is that the demand is there..a driver can go where.he/she chooses. If one leaves to improve themselves..nothin wrong with that.

Now, I have issues with union workers who think they DESERVE free stuff as well. In my past life I was working with Union electricians. Overnight work at time and half and also a Sunday night where they got double time. We finished up, but there was one hook up left where the lead electrician would need to come back in the last night to hook up one drop. the other 4 guys complained that they didn't get to come in for the 10 minutes it would have taken. ALL four wanted the min of two hours to come in for the one drop. The lead said NO! He was looking out for his customer and not abusing it. Two of the electricians #####ed to their union rep. Long story short, the four guys didn't come in.
Now, with those few gripes, if there were more unions pay would have increased at the same rate profits have for all of the large corporations. It hasn't and we wonder why the trucking companies screw over workers. Just my opinion.... Rant over
The Graveyard is definitely going to be nice when it is finished... WHEN its finished.bucksandducks and technoroom Thank this.
