Not the self-certification must be sent in before applying for issuance or renewal . In addition to a valid medical card being shown a copy of renewal must be sent before the card expires . I renewed my CDL in January . My medical card expired February 28 . February 27th the DMv mailed a notice saying my CDL had been suspended because I hadn't sent them a copy of a new medical card . Check with the physician and your carrier to see if they forward renewal to the DMV or if you have to do it personally .

I agree the wording is confusing. It comes directly from the FMCSA site.
The AAMVA site for the new requirements can be found here- http://www.aamva.org/CDL-Program/ -
This rule IS absolutely retarded. Every 2 years you need to renew your medical card... every 4 years you need to renew your license. You think there are gonna be mistakes made by the state governments here? My goodness... Either make us renew both every 4 years or every 2 years. and have them together. Again the freaken clueless gov't.

Some medical cards are only a year. -
Yes , and you'd better renew at least 2 weeks before expiration to make sure DMV is notified .

I tried taking my forms and re-cert card into my local DMV. They just looked at me like yeah and... I emailed the contact on that list. Well see what comes of that.

Yeah, it's kind of funny but most states aren't even on board with all of this and playing catch up.
