I've got an old Rolls, a Bentley GTC and a Bentley Mulsanne on right now, the GTC and GTs/Spurs are decent to handle, the Mulsanne's are a little different. The old Rolls, is pretty easy, just remember to put them in park before you turn off the key, the trans is shifted with an electric solenoid.
Rolls.Royce-Here comes that bad feeling .......

The dead unit reminds me of a load of used VWs and Audis I picked up at Gulf VW in Houston in 1977 or 78 going to a VW dealer in Denver that was on I 25..Had an Audi Blue Fox that needed to be jumped and brake pedal went all the way to the floor...We got it running and filled the master cylinder and had brakes when you pumped them up..Loaded it on the top rear of that old Bankhead that had double skids with the scissor jacks...When I got to Denver it had snowed and there were big piles of snow plowed on the back lot where I unloaded..I unloaded the bottom and untied the top units and got into that darn Audi on the back. I pulled it out of park and started down off that trailer and the brake pedal went straight to the floor...pulled the emergency brake ...nothing...shoved it in park and click click click..I hit the snow pile and went all the way to the top before it stopped...Bent the rear bumper and expected a big write up but the checker said that the owner also owned the Houston store and knew all about the problems with this car..

That's what had me worried about the tranny on the Spur. I couldn't tell if it was elect assist. I think is was, so I left it in (N) and cranked the straps until the tires were almost flat ..... and it still seemed to move back and forth 15 feet of sway !!!!

Those Rolls and Bentleys are HEAVY. That's why I prefer to tie to the suspension and pull at angles so the car can't move.

I considered that as well. So did a previous driver judging by the sheet metal underneath that had been torn out by 'cheater hooks'. I counted 7 different damages to the underside from 'S' hooks in the wrong spots. Most were fresh slashes. Most older RR's have tie down points, but I believe they are for marine shipping, and not haul-a-way. Someone used those points as well, and they were bent.
The car did have some sway but I left clearance for that. If 4 over the wheel straps will hold a Bentley or one of those new giant Audi SUV's, then it should hold that old Spur.
But, yeah, anything heavy for import should still have reinforced tie downs .... moot point anyway I guess as everything is going soft tie. -
Those older Rolls and Bentleys have nice control arms to tie wrap straps to, on the rear you can use a small hook in the center of the rear coil spring mount. The newer Bentleys have noice cast aluminum control arms to strap to, make sure on the fronts, you don't knock of the height control rod on the front control arms or the front will sit down on you. They just snap on, but the sensor up on the frame, is plastic and if you break it, you're screwed. (I haven't had it happen to me.).
