a core is a core so long as its not broken in half you will be fine
-
yes they would

-
Your dealer must be very forgiving, most have to match part number and have lobes intact to get full credit for core.

1MM00823 should give you all you need to rebuild

Well I have called IPD and they have nothing but gaskets and bearing for the 1mm. Local cat place has it all but I have heard good and bad about cat having reman (used) pistons. How true it is who knows. I came up with total with cat 10,330 complete including used 1mm crank. but doesnt include tune, turbo, or pdi manifold. The machine shop that has used crank gave me a quote of 4700 for complete rebuild kit but will not give me core on the 2ws cylinder packs or the cam that has a bad cam lobe, So that puts price above caterpillar. Oh and service manager at cat says he will give me core on 2ws stuff. Any opinions besides IPD or CAT? guess i have no other choice but cat considering they will give me core on all 2ws parts to convert to 1mm. But if I go to machine shop tommorow what part numbers to look for or what to look for to make sure the crank they have really is a 1mm?

Oh today talked to old friend I drove for once and he ordered a flat top 389 from fitzgerald and I asked him what motor is he getting. And his words were Its the old 12.7 detroit 500 hp and I ask why oh why. He then says he can out pull me with anything I got. And I said we will see. I am still driving the 03 pete i sold to my brother until i get this 99 up and running with the 1mm. But with Mr Haney's tune on the 03 model will out pull anything i have ever driven in my life. And I have been in many trucks with cat, cummings, or detroit. BUt I got news for the old friend that just ordered his glider. He is gona wish he had never said that when I get that ole 99 day cab running with the 1mm and marine cam, tune n turbo from Mr Haney. I will make him want to sell that glider or take out that 12.7. He has no clue im going to build 15.8 beast with 18 speed, tall rubber and 355 should put it deep into triple digits at any given moment loaded or empty.

Wouldn't knock them 12.7s too hard I know of a few that have beaten up some big cats. A couple of them running in northeast will give ya a run for your money and get mpg while doing it too. Got a close friend with one 12.7 that I won't mess with and iam running pdi setup 6nz. Just my 2cents.

Hey Shovel I do understand your point but we are talking about a truck that will never see a custom tune vs a 15.8 cat that will put out all it can and still be usable for everyday use. The 03 with 7CZ tune from Mr Haney will pull hard. I can go up the hills with cars and people look at me like WTF is this truck doing still here beside me going up this hill. Dont matter is gross is less than 80 or 99k . But with the 1mm build there wont be any truck anywhere close that will want any thing to do with it. Im building a motor for everyday use not dyno results. Dont have the correct change to play that game. I also am not knocking detroits that bad anyway, I had one in my first truck and pulled corn, beans @ 100+ to max 119,870 with a detroit got hot doing it but it survived until i sold it then 9 months later the guy stuck a rod out of block from over revving it. But even cat no longer puts motors in trucks I will always have a cat.

You do know that you will be no where close to what that engine is capable of actually producing, and unless you take a step back and think about the way you will need to drive to make a high hp engine live yours will be short lived. I doubt you will do that though, trying to out pull stock engines must make you feel real good.
Oh, btw, your gearing combo only gets you 6mph over 100 and thats at 2100 rpm.Last edited: Apr 19, 2013
Buckshot7cz, Gasienica and CatPowerC15 Thank this.
