I have to blow off some steam here. Please understand it is simply that, blowing off some steam. I think it's much more constructive than to come out swinging in my trainer's truck...lol.
I've since been assigned a new trainer since my original trainer blew a gasket a few days ago. Truthfully, I think my previous instructor was replaced due to a preventable accident, but I can't say for 100% certain that this was the case.
Here are the major issues that my original trainer had before he as relieved of his training duties:
-I was driving my full 11 hours out the gate from the very first day
-He would log me as "off duty" when I was in the passenger seat, even though we were told to "NEVER" log "off duty" unless you're physically off the truck
-Forced me to eat and drink while driving (a big PSD training phase violation as you're not supposed to be dealing with distractions the first time you get behind the wheel of a 70' truck.
-Had me pencil whipping my pre, post trips for the sake of time
-Drove through I-25 in Southern Colorado during a snow storm where we were to be chained up....but in fact DID NOT CHAIN UP. My Instructor said the only time he wanted to bring out chains would be when his wife is looking for kinky sex! Seriously...that was his response! LOL...
-Was running illegal E-logs 20% of the time. We would get up from the bunk and I noticed we would go clear across town, check into the shipper, dump a trailer, hook up to another one...all while not even logging any driving or duty time...what?? Seriously? Yep...
-My trainer side swiped a Waste Management Truck in Denver on our way to the scales...wow...
Now, I really need input guys from other trainers and experience drivers. Is this what goes on every day with one of the most respected companies out there? Is this what it comes down to?
I hate to imagine what it must be like driving for some of the worse off companies out there if this is what goes on daily with Prime.
I had some other comments I wanted to list here, but I since retracted them.
Prime PSD Instructors, you're welcome to chime in here anytime and provide your valuable feedback as to how you run your training programs with your students.
Thanks for your feedback!

You got a bad one, and I'd say the reason he was pulled out of the program was the preventable. However, all of the other problems were part of the mix... this guy never belonged in the PSD program in the first place.

Wow that's wow. What has the industry
Come to -
David,
Hope things improve for you. -
Hmmmm I call bs on at least one of your gripes. Running illegal logs. You guys run elogs which means that truck dont move without it being entered as driving regardless of if you put it there or not. Lig out of the system you say? Nope because the computer will require it to be logged to someone. AND even if you somehow manage to get around that, the computer throws a red flag on that sort of log activity causing it to be audited by the log department within short order to be sure you are logging legal. Secondly if you never log off duty when you arent off the truck then you will quickly run out of hours and be whining and complaining about not making money. Your teainer was showing you the proper way. If you arent driving or unloading then you ARE OFF DUTY.
-
Now you want instructors to chime in? I told you the first day here and you paid little attention. Seems to me you got a little to high up on your horse after one 11 hour shift. You stated you knew the "reality" of trucking and not the "ideal world" if trucking.
I stand by my original assesments.
-You have a bad trainer and I told you so after Your first driving shift.
-You're a bit of a whiner.
-I'll add that you are bit of "know it all." I've suspected so when you complained about felling that the training dept was talking down to you on your first day of orientation.
So there is my .02! Careful what you ask for from this Prime Instructor. -
Are system does not trip the "drive line" until the truck hits 2 miles.
Student is clearly told he is responsible for his logs. He should log it himself, or ask his instructor to explain why it's being logged a certain way. He'll probably tell the truth rather than get caught in a lie.
There is logging and then there is logging. Even under e-logs. As long as a driver logs the event, I'm less concerned about when you log it. -
Ok for people following this post What's the story with being forced to eat behind the wheel? Anyone want to respond about that and the issues of the chains and the allegeded side swipe? Kinda have a little soap opera going so want to hear more. Seems some issues were left out. Started with "since my original trainer blew a gasket a few days ago." Kinda understand why we were left hanging?

Go look at post no. 2. The story is the guy is a douche bag, and had no business being a PSD instructor. Eating behind the wheel is prohibited for PSD students, and is classified as distracted driving these days. Running without chains when the Colorado chain law is up is illegal, and may be dangerous depending on the road conditions. That being said, road conditions can change quickly enough that they're unnecessary too, and driving down a wet road (that may have been icy half an hour ago) can ruin a set of chains and a tire. That one is a judgement call that the OP may not be sufficiently experienced to make. Logging on someone else's time is falsification of a logbook, and can be a major deal if you get into a serious accident. Finally, the accident...
In your wannabe world as a 4-wheel driver, that may be a "side swipe." In the world of a professional commercial driver, that's a preventable accident, and a major deal. Three preventable accidents that are not DOT reportable in five years will get you gone from Prime - go drive for someone else, if you can find any takers. Any accident will get you booted as an instructor from the PSD program, or a trainer in TnT (I believe.)rda2580, silenteagle and DragonTamerBrat Thank this. -
I think that Ironpony and Chucktaylor have covered the whole thing here. I will just post my standards as a PSD instructor.
1. No eating while driving
2. You will drive to your abilities and I will monitor your fatigue level. I will relieve you if I think you are fatigued.
3. Log books will be correct and reviewed daily. You drive your log, I drive mine.
4. All rules and regulations WILL be followed while driving. That includes chaining up.
5. Student performs pretrip twice a day. I evaluate pre-trip performance periodically.
6. Professional conduct at all times (we don't talk about kinky wife sex or whips and chains)DesertTraveler, DragonTamerBrat, Highway101 and 1 other person Thank this.
