I run mine in CA all the time. No problems and no filters on it. The only place you may have an issue is in the ports but I have not taken a load there so I havent had a chance to see.

I would go with the cornado. I will be better to sell when the time goes. they 12.7 is the better motor hands down. Don't get mechanical cat motor in them as fuel pumps are not avab reman and a new one is 7 grand. as for reman motors whats to be scared of. as long as its done by a good shop with warranty all is the same....cant go into deals if you have more questions PM me

An update on the gliders, collectively between the 3 I have over 500000 miles on them. Pros and cons;
Pros: Excellent value, nice trucks and great economy.
Cons: Know more when you buy. Fitz offers a good quality vehicle but as far as their customer service after the fact, they are lacking like an amateur. They mean well but too many people will drop the ball when you call in to ask questions etc. Typical when you are dealing with wives, ex wives and children, they are spoiled in that sense as no one sets them straight in the customer service side of things but their mechanics and manager Steve, he is who you need to deal with directly after the sale.
If your home is near Fitzgerald, there is an option for their "In-House" engine and it carries a warranty that they handle themselves. I have had troubles with oil consumption on two of the detroit factory motors and it turns out in the detroit kit, the sleeves they use and rings are about the same hardness so it takes forever for them to seat in. If you go with a detroit reman motor for the detroit warranty, make your very first stop to a dyno and have them run the piss out of it and seat it in while you wait then you will have minimal to no oil consumption issues beyond the norm. Normal is 1 gallon for every 15K miles, my two trucks were 1 gallon a week until we got them seated. The "In House" motor they use different rings and get a clean seat withing 10 to 15K miles and they do a few other things that simply improve on the motor by choice of better aftermarket parts etc. over stock or detroit reconditioned.
Hope this helps.
Still getting 7's for economy and the trucks are very comfortable to the drivers. Ditch the stock mattress for a Sleep DOg mattress and get your ride height set at a freightliner dealer is about all the other things I would recommend for the truck.JackMac Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply ewc. I've sort of have had that with Fitzgeralds already trying to find out when my truck is going to be built, just get the run around a little bit and they are not too quick to call back, seems like the salesman is in charge of too much, not sure just seems a little overwhelmed I guess. I am getting the Pete 389 flat top just like the one I sold so I know what to expect in the truck just want to make sure about the motor and warranty work. I get the impression that all the trucks come with "their" motor now. Not positive about that though.
I will say this to anyone thinking about going this direction. If your like me and need to be working, I am glad that I had the chance to drive a company truck for a month or so while my truck is being built. When I first called Fitz and they told me they don't take trades I told them I wouldn't be able to do the deal then because I couldn't be off of work for up to a month. Since then, the salesman said they might be taking trades now so that would make it a little easier to do for most people.
It's going to be right at 6 weeks from the time they got my deposit to the the time my truck is ready, 5 if you don't count the week for Rush Peterbilt to paint the stripes on it. So just be aware of that when they say it should be ready in 2-3 weeks. 3 weeks makes alot of difference when the bills at home don't stop. -
There are two different types of warranty that follow Caterpillar Reman Motors. Overhaul Warranty (OPT) or Reman Warranty. When CAT dealers preform the overhaul the engine qualifies for OPT Warranty, not nearly as extensive as Reman Warranty. Then Reman warranty applies to engines that are built by Caterpillar, their tech's, their certified components, built in their facility. Essentially when CAT reman's the engine your getting a crate motor.
