How's everybody doing out there? I haven't really been posting anything lately cause I have been taking the time to just shut up and read everything I can could about the 2 companies I have on the top of my list, which is Prime and Stevens. After doing all this wonderful reading I decided on prime being the best choice for me. The too reason is I can drive for them sooner then Stevens because I'm not 22(stevens you have to be 22) and Prime takes you with 4 moving violations. I like both companies because they have really good training programs so that's why the battle was so big between which one i wanted to drive for and do so for a long time(I already have my cdl but ill need a refresher). Another reason I like Prime better is because they have freight in every division(flat, reefer, and tank) so I won't find myself jumping from one company to the next. Also I'm very interested in leasing and like what Prime offers with the lease programs they have.
Ill use this time to ask a question I'm concerned about(nothing major).
How does Prime verify employment? Is it just a call to the company or do they need other stuff to verify that you worked somewhere?
The reason I ask is because they told me that since I was fired in 2012 I needed to work anywhere for 5 months(really 8 months but I had worked at a gas station for 3 months) and I'm doing some work for this company but I'm not on the payroll they just pay me "under the table". I asked them if I could have Prime call them to verify the work, but would Prime except that as employment or not?
If so ill be starting at Prime in late August early September and ill use this thread(or start a new one depending on how big this one gets, don't want people to have to read a ton to get to the good stuff). I'm praying they except this employment so I can start my new career, I'm tired of waiting. This is it for now, hope everybody is being safe out there.
PRIME it is!!!!!

Prime requires W-2s, W-4s, etc. as job verification. This approach is used to find out how much you've earned in the past (there are other ways to positively verify employment) and nothing else. If you can't produce these documents Prime will not hire you. There is a thread somewhere on this forum about this same scenario where a recruit was denied because of this despite him proving his employment. Good luck.

Your 22, got 4 moving violations &you want to lease a truck ?? So what went so wrong in your life ? Did you not get very many hugs ? Because you are about to abuse yourself more than ever before... frustration will be a daily emotion for you if you lease with prime
-
That sucks. I don't have any W2s from non of my jobs. Well hell look like ill talk to my recruiter and if he says the same then PRIME is not it lol sucks cause I really like what I read about the company but there is too many companies out there to be upset about one. I think KLLM has a lease purchase that's pretty good, my plan is to find a company with a good L/P or L/O program so I don't have to switch companies to learn the business side of trucking. Maybe Ironpony can put some light on this and let me know if that's the only way they verify employment(he seems to know Prime inside and out, I think ima call him the Prime God from here on out lol).

I know this is going to come out the wrong way no matter how I say it, so I'll just be as gentle as I can with my choice of words.
Even I, as a new student to Prime (but not young and therefore a little wiser as to life experiences), understand the ramifications in making a decision to go into leasing a truck.
Young man, you sound as if you're going to jump into some truck and toodle on down the road making a bunch of dough! It's just not that simple.
In my opinion, if a trucking company is willing to lease a truck to a 22 yr. old high school graduate with no experience running a business, then they got everything coming to them when that driver comes limping back to the Prime Yard (if he doesn't run out of money first and leave the truck stranded on the side of the road) complaining he's making no money.
Let me give you one good example. You've just been assigned a load through your Qualcomm from Denver to Los Angeles. Your FM gave you a route plan for your load. You see though that to take his suggested route is going to take you through Vail pass through a blizzard and require you to chain up. You need an alternate route. Which route do you take? What will your extra fuel costs be? What happens if you didn't plan your alternate route correctly and you run your load late. Now you have a failed load. There are so many consequences for your decisions out on the road.
I would make one suggestion and I would REALLY TAKE HEED to it! Drive company for the first year! There is so much you need to learn about the industry first before you jump into a lease or O/O situation. Learn to drive the truck the first year and learn how the entire industry works before you get in over your head! I really think this is the wisest move. Even as a mature veteran having run my own business in the past, understand that there is just too many things that can go wrong that first year of Leasing that would put you belly up, busted and down and out!
And again, if a company actually lets some 22 yr Lease a truck, then it's their own #### fault for whatever failure comes down the road. Can you imagine a bank loaning $180,000 to start a franchise Restaurant to someone with absolutely no experience in the Restaurant business? It wouldn't happen in a million years! But yet it can happen in this industry...wow!
Good luck regardless of any decision you make.lonewolf262, Jrdude5, superpet39 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Why rush? relax, and work a year as a company driver first. you said you did alot of reading on here....apprently you didnt read enough if you want to lease right away good luck on your choice... but remember: ALL the people on here that have said (not only this thread but others) to WAIT, and LEARN before you go lease- know ALOT MORE than you buddy and are only speaking from experience. -
Your 49 and can't read!! I said I'm not 22 and also said something like I want to get with a company with a good lease program so that way when I go to lease I don't have to switch companies. Some people just don't understand/comprehend what they read. I ain't the brightest person but come on -
Let me clear this up for everybody. A couple months ago(before reading every thread on this form, even ones from years ago) I wanted to jump right into lease but now after reading all that I'm going to learn the road and everything else before I do a lease123456 Thanks this. -
Don't get frustrated with people on here bursting your bubble trying to keep you from going down the wrong path. I'd be more frustrated with you work & driving history causing you problems.
Just my humble opinion.superpet39 and Drac1985 Thank this. -
They fax a form to the employers you listed and they fill it out and fax it back
