What is your advice or thouhts on Prime and they're owner lease thing? I undestand that they hire you and then later you drive for them. I heard that they are a good company. Any thoughts guys?

Now I did notice that you drive for USA but your asking about Prime? Beyond that I have been leasing to prime for about 2 months and so far the loads and to the income I make is enough for me to be profitable and successful. It is a good company to lease with a lease walk away option that can work.

Regardless of the COMPANY 2 things that need to be addressed with a LEASE deal.

    1) How much experience does your husband have driving a truck

    2) How much experience do you both have with running a business?

Flatbed well he's currently in training and he has 6 months experience but it was locally here in Texas and he lacks over the road he's currently learning from a very nice trainer. Neither has experience with a company but I am college educated and could do it fairly easily. But I don 't want to. I want to know how prime is to work for as a regular employee.

You all really need to think long and hard about this decision, and your finances. There is tons of info on TTR alone regarding leases, and it doesn't matter the company that is doing the lease. A lease is a lease is a lease. I do know that Prime has some of highest (if not the highest) lease payments in the industry. Haywire12 says he is doing well, but there are 1000 drivers behind him that have failed.

My philosophy on leasing is this: If you are single, team, or a trainer, then a lease might be great. If you are a solo driver that has a family that depends on his or her income, then don't lease. There are going to be times that you will go weeks without a paycheck.

Anyways, if he's hell bent on leasing...check out John Christner Trucking. They're a good outfit and have much cheaper payments than Prime.

he's currently in training and he has 6 months experience :biggrin_25513: Do not even think about LEASING he needs more time , as for the college education sorry to say but the bankruptcy courts are full of well educated people who failed in business, go take some business courses.

A college education doesn't teach you much about the trucking business, experience and asking a lot of questions of long time owners ops does.

One of my big criteria on a lease or purchase contract is who has control of the escrow money that you earn. Can you spend it how you like within reason, if you quit and don't owe the Company money do you get to keep it?

    FLATBED Thanks this.
