I start with US Xpress on Monday as a new driver. Being retired military, I know how to put up with a bunch of crap from a large organization. If this company is as bad as the previous post's say, I'll soon find out. I'll keep you guys updated on how my career goes with them.

Day 1:
Arrived at orientation along with 32 other people and by the end of the first day they sent 10 people away for various reasons...lying on application about driving history, high blood pressure, high blood sugar and such stuff. Road test was easy. One guy even ran a stop sign, but the trainer chalked it up to being nervous and didn't report it. The day was filled with screening and paper-work. Love those automatic transmissions! Hope I get selected to stay.
Day 2:
Arrived this morning to bad news for four more people. They got cut. There are eighteen left now. Some of those cut were husband and wife teams with experience. More paper-work and a test on HAZMAT stuff. Got called to the office because corporate HQ in Tennesee couldn't seem to find my application. Had to give them the info again over the phone again. Amazing! -
Day 3:
US Xpress seems to be very picky about the people they hire. If you show any type of bad behavior during orientation, they cut you. One guy took a picture of the receptionist with his cell. He was gone an hour later. One dude said, "#### the movie" during a video presentation and continued to talk during classes. He was let go on day two. What a lot of people don't realize is, the administrators who run orientation are the first line of defense against hiring problem drivers, and are authorized to let prospective drivers go if they feel it's neccessary. I was hired today at .35 a mile and given my fuel card and employee number. I'll be assigned to a trainer for OTR training for 28 days before being tested and given my own truck. I asked them about tuition reembursment. It turns out that you essentially pay for tuition reembursement yourself, because in order to receive the $150 a month extra in your check every month, you have to take a .02 decrease per mile in your pay. So instead of starting at .35 per mile, I would get .33 per mile. If your running a lot of miles...like 2500-3000 a week, it doesn't pay to take it, and your better of paying off the loan yourself. Do the math! My trainer arrives tomorrow to pick me up. He sounded pretty cool on the phone. I'll keep you posted on how the training goes.

Vegas Road Dog,
I think My wife and I went to school with you. We are on the road with our trainer at Interstate. Right now we are in Denver Colorado dropping off a load. I hope things work out for you at US. -
Vegas - this is great! My buddy is a 3rd party recruiter for them, he recruits for 20 some comapnies and hearing all of this is great.
I love my company - before you get there they already have you approved.
I like hearing about other companies though. It is actually and interesting read. -

Does n e 1 have n e thing positive 2 say about USX? I was looking at them and Arnold, but can't get n e feedback on them. Holla back.

I can say very few positive things about the company to be honest. They were big enuf reasons for me to stay with them for 7 years.
1) Most drivers will disagree with me, but driving an Automated transmission is the best. Less driver fatique, no missing gears, no gear grinding, no gear shift in the middle of the floor that you have to manuever around to get into the bunk/seat. And guess what, every single company truck at USX is a Automatic. Of course there will be diferring opinions. But you couldnt give me a standard shift truck EVER again. If you gave me one, I would use it as a trade in for a Automatic. Anyways..
2) There equipment isnt to teribly bad. Althou they try to skimp out on options in the truck, they still arent that bad. Good HP, good TQ, good stereo (in the Volvos anyways).
3) They dont complain about you idleing your truck. Which is a big thing for me since this particular company doesnt offer any type of APU.
Now the bad thing is, I am sitting here racking my brain, for about 30 mins, to think of more positive things to say about this company, and I really cant. True, I might have been a "fired" employee from this company, but as I said, there had to be some reason I stayed there for 7 years. I think I had it better than alot of the other drivers for the company. I got into dedicated routes 7 months into driveing. And I never looked back. So I never had to deal with the rail yards, stupid or dysfunctional dispatchers, terminals, and alot of other things that the normal OTR drivers had to deal with.
Honestly, I have to say that I, personally, am not mad at USX. For the jobs I had while employed there, I was treated well, had good equipment, etc. I am just mad at a couple Corp Execs that decided to fire me. But as I said befor, I had it better than ALOT of the drivers at this company. So my opinion may be a little skewed.. -
Hey dog,
How bout an update on USX. I'm from right up the road in Mesquite and have gotten a call and a postcard from USX asking me to sign on. Give me more info as you can...
