Why is this $1/mile freight disappearing the moment it hits the boards? The repo man is going to be busy next month, methinks.

Jb hunt Swift CRST to name a few are why the rates are dropping. Flat bed rates have hit all time low since these megas have dipped into flatbedding but yet brokers, shippers and recievers wounder why they have more and more damaged or late freight when they chose to use these cut throat low ball companies. A perfect example is a load I called on a few weeks back going from NJ to OH. The broker offered me 400 bucks to run it. I turned it down. Figure you had 500 miles loaded, running the Pa pike is 150 with ez pass and say 400 in fuel. min. that's avg of 5 mpg which is what I always run mine at to be safe. I called back that afternoon to see if the rate had gone up and he said It was covered. I asked him if he didn't mind telling me how much it went for and who got it and he said 350 and jb hunt took it. Those megas don't care if its cheap or not. to them its a tax write off in the long run. which I hate to say it but is smart if you have the money to back it.

There was a bunch of cheap freight out of Tulsa with Mercer that I turned down. Most of it is gone. There are still loads going to Iowa, but I don't see me hauling RGN loads with my step.

Few loads out of the North East with exception of local stuff such as mulch. I wouldn't mind hauling the local stuff, but there isn't enough money in it for me to go back and get more.

I pulled AC units to Long Island nearly 2 weeks ago for $2.01. A similar load left yesterday for $1.65.

I don't mind sitting for a 1/2 a day if the load gets me another .35 a mile. I won't be going back to Tulsa for awhile.

They had them same loads yesterday going to long island for slightly more. Who in their right mind will go to NYC for less than3.00 a mile?tolls are a killer.

Well, it might be logical to assume that since you saw it listed for $1 and then it was gone, that it went for a $1. Without knowing the particulars of the actual transaction, one cannot truly be sure it actually got hauled for that amount. Keep in mind the bid price listed on the board is only the opening bid by the broker and it will automatically be bid low. But then, you knew that.

If your operating cost with fuel is .85cpm would you take 1.00 freight in order to reposition for better paying freight. When I hear of people that are sitting losing a 1,000 a day or more I always have to question thier math and thier decision on how to run thier business.
