Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this...but..I'm interested in Crete. I'm in the Dallas area (Wilmer). I've look here and on Crete's website and there seems to be no info on what the training consist of - how long, how much, details, etc. I just graduated a CDL mill (lol!) and want to apply with them. Can someone give me some info on their training?

Well, you report to Lincoln, NE. Do tons of paperwork, have a drug test and (new) DOT physical. Then you wait. First, for drug test results (couple days), then for a trainer to be available (I hope you really like Lincoln!).

Then you get to live in a small box with a perfect stranger for 8 full weeks, with no break. Forget about driving the truck, that's the EASY part. Being cooped up with someone that long, even if you get along fairly well with them, is a real pain in the ess.

Pack light. There is barely enough room in those Freightshaker condos for ONE person's stuff. Two weeks' clothes, BEDDING, "shaving" kit, cell phone/charger, any medicine you need (THREE MONTHS' worth, minimum), and flip-flops for the showers. There are soooooo many other items it would be useful to have, but try to get it all in three small duffel bags, maximum. (one will be all bedding, remember)

    Good Luck (evil laugh) -Dave

You may want to take only one duffel bag and get the majority of your items out on the road. This is because you may not like driving, or you may hate your trainer/company you're stuck with. If you choose to jump off the truck at a stop somewhere, you won't have to lug so much on the bus going back home.

I've seen many a guy at truckstops who'd decided to call it quits while in training. They'd be somewhere near the fuel islands trying to bum rides. Usually they had several large bags they had to carry back home. The green quitters I saw should have gone light at first to make sure they liked trucking before heaving all those heavy bags onto a training truck.

By (new) DOT physical, what I meant was...

If you have your CDL A, then you probably have a medical certificate. This medical certificate was probably just issued to you recently, and (hopefully) good for two years. But, it is no good at Crete. As part of the hiring process for Crete, you will have a DOT physical. It's safe to assume that you'll pass it, as you just passed one recently. But by Crete policy, your current medical card is no good, so Crete will pay you to get a new one. It will be issued by a Doctor in Lincoln, NE. Crete might want other medical tests run on you pre-hire, as well. These are not required for your license, but required by your new employer. No big deal. Just further agility tests, basically. You're getting paid to do it, so what the heh. -Dave
