My question to anyone out there is this: been searching within myself And I gotta know what motivates you guys and ladies to enter the trucking world? Truth is I'm scared but I don't want to live my life in fear to try something new and different. Can anyone tell what got u into this?
perhaps hearing your stories will help shine some light on my motativations to be a truck driver. Thank u

My business started to fall apart a few years ago due to the prolonged incredibly bad economy. So I closed it up and looked around to find the industry that was doing ANY hiring. The trucking industry was the only field that I could find that was. I became very interested in it through research, got my CDL, applied at a good company and got accepted. The rest is history. I am very happy with my choices. Its tough tho!!

Well as an owner op I love the freedom. I own my truck and trailer I chose my loads and find them, I setup the load times and unload times. If I want to stop I stop. Now with a lot of companies you cant do that as much but you still have more freedom in the cab of a truck the a cube in an office.

Im a student in cdl school. Have worked in a call center most of my life. Honestly i wanted to do this since i was in high school, this has been my dream. However i, like u, was scared. I finally had enough once i got laid off and finally ddcided to do this. It wasnt easy with a wife at home but she is supportive and wants me to pursue my dream. So that is what i am doing. Hope it helps.

Quite a lot of us started out after retiring from another career. Military, law enforcement etc. It is a lot easier on the mind, when you already have an income that will take care of day to day living expenses. That way, you can concentrate on learning the job, rather than worrying about if you will have enough money to pay the bills this month. If you are married, you really need to have your wife be on board with this life style, or you will both be miserable.

I did it as a favor for a friend.

was in between middle management jobs and he knew I drove dump and snow plow in WYO, way back in the '70s.

was a straight truck and it grew into running it up to Montreal,PQ, from there I was hooked.

that was back in the early "80s.

I was talking to a school recruiter while I was unemployed and fell for his line. By the time I realized exactly how mesed up this industry is, and taht it is the entire industry, I decided I was too close to retirement, and too lazy, to learn another job.
