Good luck trying to get a job that is not OTR, fresh into trucking that is about all that is available to you. I think it is an unwrittten agreement between trucking companies. A lot of the local work requires two years OTR to get hired. They say it takes two years to learn how to back the truck without busting things up. If you can stand the enviorment, the workload and the frustration, that pay is very doable, even in the first year. However, trucking outfits vary in handeling drivers, what is true at one place is not that way at another, but if you can handle OTR, you should be able to make some money. My spouse was able to quit working after my getting into trucking. Good luck. drive55cat

smaller regional carriers (GTI is a great west coast example) will put you out limited long haul (10-15 states) with the usual 10-14 days out. you could make 40-55k a year or as little as 35. I personally wouldnt take a job for less than 30cpm whatever youre doing just starting out. Personally I landed a great local job though. I only work 4 ten hour days a week (t-f) and I made 40k my first year. best of luck and keep us posted

It may take a year or 2 to get into the 40 to 50 grand range. Usually students fresh out of school will make around .25 to .30 cpm as a solo.
If you make .30 cpm and run 3000 paid miles per week you will make 900.00 gross based upon mileage alone. Most new drivers will only average 2000 to 2500 miles at first though. The more experience you get the more money you will earn per mile but it does take time.

Look at Shaffer, they love the NE. Pay is good, running is sane and they train. You might do $45k your first year there, maybe. Prob. get close to that....... Cuz

I'd say somethere around 35 is more normal. I got a good paying local job right out of school and still only made 36k. Averaged 18.75 an hour if you include OT. Some other local companies that hire with no exp only pay 12 an hour or less. No one should pull a class A for less than 15 if you ask me. Costs enough to get the license (or do a year+ OTR ). Just weigh all your options and consider whats really important to you. Well thats about all I have to say on this one.

Where did yal see where he asked about local. Thats what im talking about not answering the quedtions asked, he asked if 45,000 is a good number to look for. The answer is no unless you find a company willing to run you 3600 miles a week making .35cpm with atleast 4 days off a month. A little more than 45,500, i figer a week off cause you wont do 3600 every week so that will make it all work out to 45,000 a year. Now i hope a simple math prob answered your question. Just ask the drivers that you see from time to time at your local whs or truck stop, what they make.
