If the companies adds are always in the classifieds are not hiring, would this not portray the image of a drivers shortage? Also If I am correct I have been told on more than one occasion the canadian
Goverment gives out money to foreigners to start there own businesses in Canada when they first arrive here could this not be another issue in the trucking industry. It seems as foreigners are given more opportunities than we as Canadians are. My husband with over 30 years of experience on the road, and no driving infractions has e-mailed 8 different trucking companies for an owner operator position, and has only heard back from 1. -

Unfortunately this kind of practice has been going on for several years and not just in the trucking industry, it is not about the experience it is about the language you speak. There is a dry walling company in bc hiring, no experience required but you must speak English/punjabi. A nurse that got turned downed for a job because she spoke English/French not English/punjabi, shaw is now hiring English/punjabi. If you don't know both or punjabi you are not qualified whether you are experienced for that position or not. I don't know wether the people being hired for these position are canadian, or they are being brought over, these are not minimum wage positions, and it is not non speaking punjabi not willing to work for them, this is discrimination. How many times have you phoned your bank or your phone company to talk to an agent and could not understand a thing they said, if you phoned to say that you only wanted to talk to someone who speaks English/French,would that not be discrimination? So how is it not discrimination when you are not considered for a job because of you ability to speak punjabi? There used to be laws against this. Unfortunately they probably don't exist anymore, but from what I can see when there is a whole warehouse with only 1 ethnic group working in it there is a good chance there is discrimination going on somewhere in that company. Why this is going wether it be wages, or ethnic background, I could only guess, but it is happening.
