It's just an example of a low paying job that folks use to relate to the hourly wage that you'd come up with if you took a truck drivers average weekly paycheck and divided it by the number of hours in a week. Which is not a fair comparison IMO. Yes, Wal-Mart may pay you to sleep in their truck but Wal-Mart is just one company and they are not strictly a freight carrier. They are a retail chain that happens to have it's own private fleet.

Gotta run yer tail off to make any real money, solo or team. ya beat around the bush ya just ain't going to get anything. dispatchers pay attention to how you run. They try to accommodate you for your style of running and give the real money loads to the heavy runners.

You don't have to deliver on the time it says to get there... Don't be late but most receivers will likely be willing to work you in if you are early. Some recs may not if you too early though. Communicate with you dispatch to. Let them know when you can deliver so they can get you another load before you get there.

Another reason miles might suck is just cause huge companies may not have the freight to keep everyone happy, or dispatch just has that one favorite driver. Slow freight months can also contribute to crappy miles...

How about combining the two career fields?

When parked at the truckstop, flip burgers and sell them.

That way you will have the best of both worlds.

If you have those endorsements I would definitely seek some kind of tanker position if possible. It pays good and you are usually out and back. None of this 8-10 week stuff unless you just like that sort of thing. Not me.

    Good luck in your search.

If you have hazmat and tanker apply to fuel transport companies home every night and really good pay they like people with no exp so they can train you there way takes time to get properly trained but even the training pay is good look into it it can be a rewarding career.

There is definitely some truth in this statement. If one chooses to pursue trucking they do need to have their financial situation in order before hand. So many people are in dire straits these days they think trucking is the answer to their problems because it is quick and easy to get into. I would highly advise researching this trade before jumping in. Make sure you can afford to live off of what a company is paying.

If not, you would be better off working two jobs back at home and make more money than some of these trucking companies pay. And be home every day/night.

You also need to be able to read between the lies. If it seems too good to be true it probably is.

    15.00 x 40 = 600.00

    15 hours overtime is paid time and a half...22.50 x 15 = 337.50

    600 + 337.50 = 937.50...GROSS...

    937.50 X 52 weeks = 48,750...

You see it now.?..Many drivers anymore don't even make a gross over 30,000 and they have the meal expence and never have a life at home...

    sure....

And most employees at a fast food joint are not going to get 55 hours a week. They are lucky to get 32 hours a week. My ex and her "sister" both were managers at a burger king. Even as a STORE manager, her sister was limited to 40 hours per week and only earned $13/hour.
