You're going to believe what you want no matter what. It doesn't matter how much time I spend on duty or if I ever take a full 10 hour break. If the students stay in bed while I unload the first stop in the morning, they get the required break every night. There are no restrictions on my on duty time if I'm not driving. I take advantage of having a second log on the truck. I don't deny that. But I don't do it in a way that's unfair to the student.

True , you can be on duty as long as you want and in the passenger seat . I was just wondering if you drive at all and where you'd get your required 10 hours . Does the student ever spend 10 hours unloading while you get your break ?
Saying you only got 50 hours because you observed the student driving would be credible . I can't figure the 80 hours though . And $1400 in 80 hours is nothing to brag about . Many do that in 65 hours or less on their own .cc tanker Thanks this. -
I wasn't bragging about my income. I was relating to another guys post about running the same account I'm on. I never have a student unload while I sleep. I'm the one getting paid for it. We sleep at our first stop. I get up and unload, and the student stays in bed until its time to do the pre-trip. Once they start their clock, most of them help unload the other stops to speed up the process and get as much drive time as they can out of their 14 hour day. I take an occasional nap once they've been with me a couple weeks, but they all know my name if they need me. In a couple weeks, I'll be someone's student. If my trainer benifits financially by having me with him, I'm all for it.

O.K. , my apologies . I don't get involved with all that much load and unload time . I don't sleep at stops either .

No worries. As hard as I try not to fit the stereotype, I know a lot of guys out there that do abuse the training process. Back on topic, I'm looking forward hopefully being an excellent student and learning a new part of the trucking industry.

I got my start hauling bulk milk in the 80's started when I was 18 ...I worked for a great guy ran a miserable route 7 days a week made very little money but got great experience learned alot and had a great time..I dont regret hauling milk at all..didnt make much money but the experience I gained was priceless..I make as much in 2 days now as I did in 7 then but that experience helped mold me into the driver I am now...hauled bulk milk for 5 years...Big Duker, RickG, MiFamilyGuy and 1 other person Thank this.

Had my first day pulling a tanker today. 12000 gallon water tanker. 2 loads didn't quite fill the swimming pool. I now have a new perspective on how big an ordinary looking pool is. And for how it feels to weigh in at 75 tons. Wow! Looking forward to day 2 tomorrow.

Hey all,
I graduate from CDL school here in Jacksonville FL in 2 weeks. I just passed my Tanker endorsement at the Tax Collectors office on Friday (Missed 1 question) hehe. I have an appointment on the 2nd of May to take my Hazmat test.
I know I am a New Driver out of school but I really want to drive Tankers. Can anyone point me out some good companies that hire grads here in Jax? Of course as a last resort I will settle for Van to get my "Experience". No harm, no foul.
Thanks for the info.

There's several websites and job engines to do that kind of search. One of my favorite ones is indeed dot com. Type tanker, fuel, bulk, transport, cdl, crude haul, etc. and ofcourse your city and state. Also, visit your local truck stops, pick the type of tanker and truck you'd like to see yourself driving; they usually have the employer logo on the side and talk to those drivers. And keep and eye out for tankers on the road, visit your commercial zone and look for parked tankers and those delivering fuel, etc. Hope that helps!

After a 10 year hiatus and 3 months with Schneider I'm starting a new job tomorrow pulling tanks. It's been a long time since I've pulled tanks. I'm scheduled to train for 3 days before they turn me loose on my own. Gotta be like riding a bike, huh? Good pay, home every night, weekends off! Gotta love it!
