What about idiots that ruin their own #### careers and instead of blaming themselves blame the #### training companies? Tell us...do you really believe that training companies waste their valuable time and resources trying to ruin trucker's careers? You sound like you fell off the turnip truck just yesterday. And the reason idiots starve out there is because they are too dumb and incompetent to handle the job. Not everyone is cut out to become a professional driver.

Good luck. I worked for CTL/comcar in Tampa for 3 months till they laid off 100+ drivers. Hopefully the flatbed CCC division is more stable.

Heads up: hope your ready for a hair cut for the lab

Toyotacoma - as others have said, there's plenty of work for newbies in Texas if you're willing/able to relocate and work long hours. I came out here fresh from CDL school and made $55K the last ten months of 2012 (I could have made much more if I chose to work for a frac company). I don't know of any "pay your dues OTR" job that would even come close to that, so don't listen to these curmudgeons who want you to make the same mistake they did. There's nothing wrong with OTR if that's your thing, but it's definitely not the only path available to you.

Since you asked for companies that hire newbies : Key Energy, and Nabors are a
Good place to start. Generally you'll find more opportunities for newbies in West Texas, but there always exceptions. Best of luck

My brother in law and best friend both work in the oil fields in Odessa. You could breeze into town and get hired on the spot given that you have a cdl.

PackRatTDI; I've been hearing there is no place to live in Odessa. Otherwise I would already be there.

Yeah, housing is an issue unless the company has rooms under contract. The main problem is the locals are taking full advantage and charging way too much. $95 a night at Motel 6 for example. Cheaper for the drivers to live in the truck and idle.
