Hiring Freeze for Hometime+ in Dallas, Tx

If you are talking about the 7 on and 7 off or 7 on 3 off program, Maybe the company do not have that many drivers in your location on that program so it will be hard for them to keep that tractor rolling while you are off !!!!!! I stay close to dallas and I really do not see that many Roehl Drivers.

 

Hmm that is interesting. I live right on Hwy 75 (Central Expressway) in Denison and I see Roehl trucks all the time!

 

Don't get me wrong, but I said " I don't see Roehl Drivers in Dallas,Tx not Denison Tx!!!!!!! That is about 74 miles outside the DFW area.

 

Very true that is. But I am in Dallas on a daily basis and that is when I see them on 75. Going both to and from the Dallas area. But maybe you just don't see them over on I35. We almost went with Interstate and I hardly ever see their trucks here, but we go to Denton at least every other Friday and everytime that I am in Denton I see at least 1 or 2 IDC trucks. So it just may be that in Lewisville you don't see the trucks but in they are in the Dallas, Plano, Richardson area and then head up my way towards Oklahoma.

 

Not to get off the subject, I think that there is not that many drivers that live in the DFW area that are on that program so that is way there is a freeze on the program in the Dallas Area..... Way not call and see what is the problem!!!!! By the way try out TMC they are off 46/52 weeks a year. GET U HOME ON THE WEEKENDS...... THEY DO FLATBEDDING LIKE ROEHL ......

 

I will have to check them out. Hubby and I are planning to team and don't want to do flatbedding but that sounds perfect for a friend of mine. Thanks for the info.

 

There is nothing but rumor right now on the status of the "Hometime" fleets. So rather than spread anything, I will just give you my opinion and that may contain a kernal of truth for you...

While the "Hometime Fleets" have been a huge success for ROEHL in the past, the future is looking a little bleak right now as far as adding more "Hometime" drivers to the mix.

In my opinion ROEHL has oversold those fleets in certain markets and the freight in those areas is starting to dry up or has moved to other carriers that are under bidding ROEHL's rates. The consequences are that ROEHL no longer has the guaranteed freight that allows the expansion of "Hometime" fleets.

Make no mistake about it, the months ahead for the entire trucking industry are going to be very rough and trying to maintain mileage for all the drivers currently on specialty fleets is going to be a challange.

Who is going to suffer? Everyone. Those on "Hometime" will receive priority trying to meet the commitment ROEHL has made to get a driver home and back out again in a set time frame. Unfortunately, those on the National or Regional fleets are going to feel that they are left holding the bag and that ROEHL doesn't care about them. NOT TRUE!! But with only so much freight going into or out of an area, someone is going to get the short straw.

Texas has always been a hard market for any company that is charging a premium for their services. Unfortunately, there are lots of small "I'll do it for less.." companies there that are running on a shoestring and going broke that the shippers are using up right now because they are also trying to save a buck.

Fortunately, ROEHL has a reputation for premium service that generally brings the shippers back to us that have moved off to other companies.

Will the freight get better? Hard telling. My sources in the trucking industry and conferences with several management figures outside of ROEHL feel that the face of trucking by the end of this year will have some very different challenges. What those are, I couldn't say.

I do know that all companies are probably going to have in place some draconian policies about frivilous idling. As an O/O I can tell you that my idle time as an average is ZERO. That is just throwing money out the stack. I have a bunk heater and I use it. During the Summer, I never, ever stop during the day unless I am out of hours and then I try to stop at an Idle-Aire facility ($1.35 an hour for Idle-Aire vs $3.50 an hour when idling?? DUH!!). At night, I put in my window screens, turn on my little box fan and I can get right comfy!!
