Modern cab overs are actually more aerodynamic than conventionals , the air has to change direction less times thus less turbulence , a lift axle single drive will save you 1 mpg approx. pre egr? Another mpg easy!

Why is it that some a these simple parts for Freightliner cabover's are so ###### expensive?? I have a '98 FLB and I tried to order the side steps that go right behind the steer tire...they wanted $840 each!! I had a nice heavy duty aluminum pair made for $450. The other day I noticed a hole rubbed thru on the oil filler tube...called Freighliner n they wanted $748!! I cant believe it. I took it off n went to an exhaust shop n they made me one exactly the same for $125... Why is freightliner tryin to rape a guy so hard on these kinda parts???
-
You think frighliner is expensive. Ahhh try going to kenworth and ordering any cabover specific part. It's no diffrent. It blows my mind, to the point I'll never buy a kenworth again.

Yes Scaniaman its the same O'Briens that do the livestock to the continent. I know they don't have the sound of the old V8 but torque is something else, they really can pull! here is a link to a photo of Marcus Morgans new 730 and Finkl cattle trailer, http://www.servimg.com/image_preview.php?i=36&u=17869411 , (credit to the original photographer), a beautiful truck and apparently no complaints from the driver, you probably know him!.
How are you getting on over there? -
large scale production makes things cheaper , parts are expensive because not too many people need them
but here both conventional and cabover trucks used same parts as much as possible -
i am surprised that you use german trailer for livestock?
-
I don't want to stray from topic here, I posted the picture merely to show some members one of the latest cabovers from Europe.
Why not use a German trailer? this one is built specially to Irish department of agriculture export specifications which are some of the hardest to pass in the world. If its built in Germany all the more reason to buy it, I have never seen anything that was poorly made in Germany! -
no no i like german products but i am just surprised to see that you dont have something domestic , here everybody use italian bodies/trailers for livestock transport in all other transport segments german/austrian manufacturers are dominating
-
Ahh MAN? Schmitz? Mercedes?
-
Yes all of the above, I am a huge fan of Schmitz trailers, I have pulled them for best part of 8 years in total on hanging work and not a crack in sight!
sent you a pm Scaniaman.
