Same principle applies here as in the other thread I posted in. Legal does not mean safe.

If you drive the speed limit on the jersey turnpike you are an extreme road hazard and are just begging to get rear-ended.

Exactly. In the news 3 or 4 weeks ago a woman got an impeding traffic ticket in DC for doing the speed limit in the left lane.

The idiots in the "fast lane" doing 80mph in a 55mph zone must've been taught that flow of traffic crap at their local DMV. Interesting because I was taught differently in NC. In this scenario the "fast lane" can "get away with" 60mph in the 55mph zone but anything above that won't be considered for keeping with the "flow of traffic". But for all you truckers that feel the need for speed, all I ask is that you go around me without tailgating the crap out of me. Drive Safely!!!

I can not give full details but I do remember hearing of a study that was done that car/trucks going slower than the flow of traffic is one of the main reasons of back ups on the highways, and also was deemed unsafe. I also believed Governing trucks is a mistake for that same reason. I went O/O when I did for I felt unsafe driving a slow truck (slower than the other trucks of the Same company. For I did not just have people flying by me on the left but on the shoulder also. Yes being passed on the shoulder of the highway.) Speed is what they say cause accidents but it mixed speeds that does most.

Anytime I would drive through atlanta when going home on leave from the navy in florida, I would rock some mid 90's The Offspring just to get myself mentally up to speed(pun intended) to keep up with traffic.

My favorite was "Bad Habit" off the Smash album.

You said, yourself, you were doing 60. 5 miles BELOW the speed limit. So someone doing 65 in that 2nd lane would have had to pass you, either on the left or the right (the "real" slow lane.) How is that not impeding traffic? While doing 60 in a 65 isn't against the law, staying in anything but the far right lane when you are driving slower then most of the other traffic is at the very least rude.

Edit: OOPS, goshdarnit, I didn't see you say the speed limit was 60. Carry on driver, you have a legitimate gripe there.

Stupidest thing I have seen, besides some of the other stuff mentioned here (high beams, cutting across multiple lanes to make an exit, etc.) was a guy backing up on a shoulder because he missed his exit. Unfortunately, he wasn't taking it slow either and swerved out onto the interstate itself a few times. Came darn close to hitting a few vehicles. Oh, then there was the lady who had been on my trailer doors for about 15 miles on the DC beltway, then got in the 2nd lane to pass me, sped past, and just as we came up on the exit darted over into my lane about a car length in front of me. I couldn't even see her bumper. Then she realized the ramp was full and did what any sane human being would do in that situation... she slammer on her brakes. I still have no idea how I didn't hit her since I was empty. I would have had a tough time squeezing a bacteria outta my butt after that incident.

Yes, your vast experience should educate all of us! Oh wait! Your profile says that you have less than one year of experience. Maybe you just graduated from driving school and you are going to educate all of the million milers here. The thing is that the law also says slower traffic keep right. You are slower traffic so you should keep right since you are so law abiding and SAFE! Don't try to impose your will upon others, you don't know their skills or needs of the moment.

I was on 476 north in PA where it's only 2 lanes. My truck is governed at 62 so I am always in the slow lane. A Conway day cab pulling a pup is passing me on the left at 62.5 mph. Instead of letting 2 lanes of cars back up behind us for miles, I decide to kick off the cruise and let him go by. Only problem is Billy Bob Super Trucker is right behind me in his bright yellow Kwhopper. He is so close behind me I can't see the front of his truck in my mirrors! I get on the radio and tell him I'm slowing down, no answer. I look again, this time he's even closer! If my rear doors were open, he would have been in the back of my trailer! I put my 4 ways on, he's still right there. Finally conway passes me and so does good ol' Billy Bob, with his antennas at a 45 degree angle, gazillion chicken lights and chrome Texas bumper.

Does it make you feel good that you have 11 years of "experience " (experience in what?? Speeding? Reckless driving? Wasting fuel? Making fun of newbies? )....you know some people learn in one day what others won't learn in a life time...
