I work for a mom and pop averaging $1000 gross per week. I've been at it only a little over a year, and I want my own truck. Is there still better money out there, or should I just be happy with what I have and wait? The one thing that bugs me the most is having to fix my log book sometimes to make that money.

You shouldn't have to fix your log to make money. Before jumping in ask yourself what you know about managing a business. Sadly most drivers can hold the wheel but have squat for experience in business management. This is not the type of business where you learn as you go either. I have a friend that had to satisfy his curiosity about being a lease operator. He crowed about his $1700 bring home for one particular week, which was never repeated. Of the $1700 he had yet to pay taxes and had no insurance. My personal best was $67,000+ for a year driving someone else's truck. My best week I made $1792. Of course I don't come home with that much. However my taxes were paid, insurance, and some set aside for retirement. Still not convinced? Lease payments don't stop. For Christmas that year my friend got a whopping 3 days at home. Meanwhile I parked my company truck at home for 2 weeks. I hoped on a plane flew to Belgium and then took the train down to Paris, France. I'll take the company truck any day.
