LOL, that is IF you really think SS will be around then, I would much rather have MY money in MY pocket to do with, and or invest as I would want.

Let's just suppose for one minute Lilbit that you, or your husband paid into SS all you could for the next 20 years, PLUS what you have ALREADY paid in, and it goes up in flames,,,,,, THEN WHAT!!!

Sorry, I really don't expect social security to be around when I retire . . . if I retire, but I don't plan on needing it.

I STILL don't buy into the "per diem" that's forced on people by the companies, because it's NOT a good deal for the driver and I know this from personal experience of my hubby's time on that stupidity.

I do not agree with it either. I was put on it without choice when I started driving. I was not comfortable with misrepresentation done by this. It was a distortion of what I was making and the loan officers did not accept the explanation.

Then reviewing it and seeing what could be done if injured on the job to the earnings, it was not satisfactory. It was in the company interest and not mine.

I have seen where if you look at the tax on the per diem to the itemized and such compared to this, it is something to be examined and fully understood and not rammed down the throat of the driver without choice.

Failure to have it voluntary is an issue that makes me wonder on the legality.

    Lilbit Thanks this.

PROVE IT. Show us what he made, total miles, cpm, days out etc. Sure, it may well be true that he got shafted, BUT I will guarantee you it wasn't using the process that I and Taxphd have described.

If that is true, then your problem ISN'T with the PER DIEM, but rather with the COMPANY he worked for.

So they put a gun to your head and told you you HAD to work for them? If you were that dead set against it, CHANGE JOBS!!!

    You missed the point.

I was hired and NOTHING WAS SAID.

It showed up on the payroll check with no explanation.

    It was NOT A CHOICE.

    Yes, I left.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I would NEVER hire a driver without them knowing how I was going to pay them.

Do you offer them a choice?

    Or is it mandated?

SO, in the mean time you realize that you may well be just THROWING that money away, EVERY WEEK, but the trucking company is the problem here?

It is mandatory, I am not going to have payroll have to figure it BOTH ways for one driver, their "choice" is that they have every right to go work elsewhere if they think they are getting shafted.

EVERYONE should own, and TRY and run a trucking company for a year, with their ### on the line for EVERYTHING that they AND the drivers do, the world would be a better place. lol
