Here goes. I was a company driver for bout 3 years w/ jb hunt. I needed more. Ive been on this site for a while and would read up about being an owner operator from time to time. One day the job pissed me off so i left and bought a truck. Ive been Workin for Container Port, pulling containers out of the piers. I call it "queer work" cuz it sucks ###. i loose a lot of time messing around w/ some of those piers. So im leaving them and have got my own authority, i should b able to run in about a week! im going to pull dry vans, but im not sure if i want my own trailer yet.
Now im not sure where to go from here. I guess i gotta get a hold of some brokers or something. I live in delaware, im looking to run the east coast up and down 95, and am looking to get home often.
so my questions are
1 where do i go to get some brokers?
2 should i purchase a trailer?

I love the brass, but dang, look before ya leap...
1) get on the internet, like the landstar load board, and with atlas in hand start writing down contact info for the brokers.
do an introductory call to some of the agents and follow up with a personal mailing, then call again in a week for verification.
2) should you? should you??? probably. but you can spend more money on a trailer after you have some business. maybe you don't need one? maybe you will??? ask the brokers you will be running for??? are there good paying power only loads?
I'm not experienced... just saying logically... your in business now... so do what needs to be done to make it a profitable one. -
If you have your own authority you HAVE to have your own trailer. You won't be leased to some company that will let you pull theres. If you lease to a company your authority will get put on inactive

ok.. i digg

Good luck Harbin. I do know there are some power only gigs out there. I talked with a guy the other day who had his own authority and was pulling Schneider wagons. He didn't own a trailor.

ya, .... C.Y.A. !!
especiallt with your own authority. establish your LLC in one of the states with good corperate protections. Like Nevada.
Fallow the rules when it comes to your business accounts. Don't use it like a personal account. You draw a check, once you start bluring the lines between your LLC and your person you open yourself up to lawsuits that can impact your personal not just your LLC
Read the thread called "so you want to own your own business" it's stickied at the top of this forum -
yeah i read some of that. i ended up getting incorperated in delaware

im waiting on my insurance paperwork, and ifta permit, and i should b good after that.
