Scott72,
I'll see you when I get up to marshfield. If you have time, post some of the highlights of the course as you go through it. See you there... -

gmhkred,
We will be a week apart, I'll see you around the RDTC campus when you get there. National Van seems to be pretty popular from the posts I have read, from my understanding, their is also flat beds and reefers in the Roehl fleet. -
Petty Cash and technoroom Thank this.

I have been lurking around reading all the Roehl posts for a while, every on has been very positive. Most of the other companies that I have prehires for have many negative posts. My recruiter has been excellent never fails to get back with me when I have a question. I think this is going to be an awesome experience. Do you have your CDL already? -
My only option was National Van.

Treefork Thanks this.

Yes, the recruiter is very responsive and has been quick to answer any question presented...And I've asked a lot of questions. And for me, I think this is going to be a great experience as well. I have a frame of reference, I went through a Truck driving school in 2000 in Ashley, PA with a company called MS carriers, it was a good company as well, but unfortunately it was bought out by the BIG guys at Swift and since my rate of pay was a bit high for their blood (.35/mile at the time), I did not get too many miles and then they throttled back my truck to 62 mph...I had to say good bye.
Yes, I do hold a CDL, but have not driven OTR in in the States for 10 years, I left the States in 2003 to work in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan, Ive been living in Thailand since 2005 and just returned to the States a couple of weeks ago.
I just got my CDL renewed a few days ago, did my hazmat exam, for finger printing, just waiting for the background investigation to come back for the endorsement to be applied to my license.
I'm also applying for a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential), I think you need it if you are driving flat beds for Roehl, in order to drive into restricted port areas without an escort, you need the card. Also, when I applied for my license, I applied for an enhanced drivers license so I don't need to show my passport going into Canada, with as many countries I've traveled in and out of, I don't need the Canadian officials questioning me on each and every country I've travel to or through, nothing to hide, but I hate explaining over and over why I was here or there and what I was doing, at least with the TWIC card, if they want to look up my travel patterns they can connect into the Interpol database if they desire.
Where do you live and how are you getting to Marshfield? I'm flying in Mosinee Airport and then taking a taxi to the hotel in Marshfield, recruiter said the cost of the taxi is about $80.00 (Ouch), I've been concerned about getting to and from classes each day, the recruiter said I should be able to get a ride with fellow students and I hope that is true, but for a back up plan there are taxis in marshfield, she said the cost is about $8.00 each way, I hope I don't get stuck doing that, but it would be cheaper than renting a car, I already priced that option and it's between $500-$600 for the period of the training.
Anyway, if you have any info you would like to pass on regarding RDTC, I would look forward to hearing from you. -
I'm coming from Norman OK. They are setting me up with a rental car to drive to Marshfield to be turned in the day before orientation starts. I was under the impression from the beginning that I was going to the Dallas terminal for orientation, but that is supposedly for the Texas regional guys.
Been driving a bobtail propane truck for the last 5 1/2 years so I had my Class B with tanker and hazmat. Paid the money and went through American Truck Training here in Oklahoma City and got my Class A and the rest of the endorsements. I'm hoping this school prepared me enough to get through the orientation and their CDL style exam.
Haven't applied for the TWIC card yet but just renewed my passport. It doesn't have any stamps in it, all my world traveling was with the Air Force and my official passport expired years ago.
Hadn't heard about catching rides, taxi ext... to and from hotel. I thought I read somewhere that there was a bus. Been reading so many different threads and talked to so many recruiters at so many different companies it's hard to remember anymore what each offers. I will go back and re-read some of the Roehl threads to refresh my memory.
