Best - being able to see some awe inspiring sights every single day. Nothing like I-40 in Arizona or New Mexico when the sun is coming up, or central Oregon, or Wyoming and hundreds of pronghorn antelope. Watching the change of seasons, seeing crops get planted, grow, and get harvested in the midwest; getting off the beaten path to find a shipper or receiver in small towns throughout the country, topping a rise and having a breathtaking classic country scene unfold on the "picture window".
Worst - shippers or receivers that treat truckers like second class citizens, that don't know the meaning of an appointment and don't care.
Most favorite and least favorite thing about being a trucker

Best : seeing some great sights and the smell of diesel..call me crazy on the diesel part.
Worst: there are quite a few things, but being gone all the time and my idiot dispatcher is the top two

Best: I love to drive and I love Semi Trucks! All kinds, new and old! I also love that I have been through every state. I love how different they are and how beautiful they are. I love being able to go inside plants and businesses and see things that most everybody cant. I love having that time to myself to drive and get paid for it. To have hours everyday to read or play my guitar. To be able to be alone
Least: The never ending tweaking of our rules by vBulletin people who refuse to acknowledge or even realize that there are many different faucets of trucking and these new rules are going to severely
affect some of them. I hate how they ruined the 34 hour restart.
I hate how Drivers are exected to work for free
"Because thats just Trucking"
I hated how when I was OTR that I could stay out for 2 months and still only be allowed to take up to
2 days off because "The truck cant sit that long"
I hated how unprofessional this profession has become. There is no excuse for tailgating and bullying other cars. There is no excuse for smelling like butt and wearing filthy clothes (as in lazyness or not caring. Not from hard work, you can tell)
I hate how now even with just a warning, you get tagged on you psp report with it and if you have been in an accident AND WERE NOT AT FAULT IN ANY WAY, you still have it on your psp report and they will not put down that you were or were not at fault.
But the most least liked thing that gets me is the lieing. From trucking companies to shippers and receivers to Truckers to Law Enforcement. I have worked several different careers and I have never experienced this bad like I have in Trucking. Nobody can tell the truth, especially other driversdrozzer69 and Dark_Majesty_06 Thank this. -
What I like most is my paycheck. If financial success is what defines a person i the US, I can be only grateful that this niche is available for me at the moment.
When working I just learn foreign languages unless in a tricky situation that requires full attention, about 10min a day). I am selling my body , not my soul.
As for driving, nobody likes when others are ignorant, arrogant or act out of spite. Doing your best to keep professional cool at all times is probably the biggest challenge any truck driver has.
Another major downside is OTR driver does not have a life outside of trucking , memories or dreams mostly. -
Best...simply being on the road, moving, ever changing scenery...and not confined to a desk somewhere
Worst...4 wheelers!!!! -
Worst: Being away from home
Best: The relief of the consignee when the load arrives on time. -

Listening to drivers that are so stupid with opinions they think matter, just shut up
-
Best: grabbin that 13th gear and rollin.. The view from my "front porch", not having to ask to go take a rest room break.
Worst for me its just not being able to see my wife and son. We grow older everyday and i cant get this time back.. I miss my family and its gets very lonely on i80 in nevada at 0200.Crossroads Thanks this. -
