Not if he left it in the yard, it blew across the road overnight, and he just now saw it.

Your reaching for that one. If you drive down the road long enough your going to run into stuff or it runs into to you. It's just that simple.

Hit my first a deer about three years ago. Been driving over 30 years. Made a real mess. Another driver said the deer whistles do work and I should try them. He also said that after 3 or 4 months they do get clogged with bugs and other debris. So, since then I have put new whistles on 3 times a year. I do alot of night driving and I rarely even see any deer anymore. When I do see them, they are running away from the truck. My opinion is they do work.

So does that mean that after many years of driving, if a kid comes out of nowhere and you're headed straight for him, it's ok to hit him because "stuff happens"?

I don't think that's what you meant, but it comes across that way.

I have hit 3 deer. I plastered 1 with an old Mack Cruiseliner. 2 am and I didn't even have time to get my foot off the throttle. The bumper took him down and the wheels ground him up and threw meat all over the truck and trailer. The bumper was already beat up from being dragged out of the woods multiple times by a log skidder.

Second one ran his head into the front corner of the truck and left a small dent. I saw him a good way off. I slowed way down and he bolted at the lase second.

Third one was this truck. 9 pm and I saw him a couple or three seconds before impact. I got on the brakes pretty hard and kept the damage very minimal. It bent the bumper in slightly. I pulled it back out with a 2 inch strap and you can't even tell it now.

Not at all. BUT you can not change or control the actions of others. They are going to do whatever they want. You are just going to deal with it. It may sound harsh but that is reality. Just like you hitting the Deer in a Logger. The chance of hitting a Deer while driving logger is about 100%. At least when I drove one. You try not to but it still happens. You just never know what's around the next corner.

I just starting driving a truck with deer whistles installed, mounted on each front globe mirror. The company supplies them free of charge. I just finished driving through central Oregon during prime deer time in the evening and passed several herd of deer. Every time we passed them they had their ears ####ed toward the truck and froze in place. Maybe these things do work...

Word to the wise, if you go through a truck wash, be aware that your whistles can get knocked off. Double check to make sure they are still attached after going through a truck wash.
