Here is the Documentation from the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) Website:The SAFE Act requires: Anyone providing an "electronic communication service" or "remote computing service" to the public who learns about the transmission or storage of information about certain illegal activities or an illegal image must
(a) register their name, mailing address, phone number, and fax number with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's "CyberTipline" and
(b) "make a report" to the CyberTipline that
(c) must include any information about the person or Internet address behind the suspect activity and
(d) the illegal images themselves. (By the way, "electronic communications service" and "remote computing service" providers already have some reporting requirements under existing law too.)
The definition of which images qualify as illegal is expansive. It includes obvious child pornography, meaning photographs and videos of children being molested. But it also includes photographs of fully clothed minors in overly "lascivious" poses, and certain obscene visual depictions including a "drawing, cartoon, sculpture, or painting." (Yes, that covers the subset of anime called hentai).

Does that 59 dollar fee cover your cell phone bill too? Or just broadband coverage?
thanks -
-
that's just broadband coverage... -
I use an old T-mobile internet connection (EDGE) that only costs me $20/mo. It's 3X faster than dial-up and slower than DSL. It's piped into a T-Mobile Wing which is a great little phone/internet device (touch screens make a huge difference).
I connect this same device through USB cable or Bluetooth to my laptop for unlimited, full-featured web surfing. I believe ATT and Sprint charge extra for using your phone as a modem even if you have a data plan for the phone alone. -
But as you said, you HAVE to have one of the "SPRINT w/VISION" Plans.
You can use either a USB or a Bluetooth connection. -
I recently purchased a 2 new dell xps laptop computers. 1 for the wife 1 for me. I had ATT broadband cards installed at the factory but have only activated 1. I was hoping to "split" the signal and set up a wireless connection between the 2 laptops and save money but it didn't work.
The rep at ATT did tell me for 60.00 a month I also get unlimited usage but did mention there are 2 types of towers available out there. The ATT owned and operated towers support data transmissions while many of their so called partners do not support the data transmissions. I have found this to be true by getting disconnected on my laptop yet still having 5 bars on my cellphone (which is also through ATT).
My wife decided to try Verizon rather than activate her ATT broadband card. She just got it today and it will be interesting to run the 2 systems head to head on our new cross country dedicated run. We will be leaving Camp Hill Pa tomorrow afternoon with a trip to Montebello Ca and then back. About 2600 miles out and 2600 back.
I know on our last trip out I lost connectivity several times during the trip. If Verizon beats ATT I will be sure to relay that info here. Heck if Verizon beats ATT, I may just deactivate my ATT card altogether and pay the penalty rather than stick it out for 2 years at 60 bucks a month. -
I definitely would love to hear your input on the verizon--was thinking bout getting it myself. Will be nice to hear how it works out! -
I am on the return leg of our round trip Pa to Ca run and Verizon beats ATT hands down! I was very surprised to say the least. ATT droppped out in western pa (along I70 in the mountains) completely for several minutes at a time while Verizons signal dropped to 1 bar but stayed connected. Through Arizona my ATT dropped out for many miles at a time,1 stretch was close to 50 miles while Verizons network stayed connected for almost the whole stretch. New Mexico was the same deal.
I have contacted ATT and explained I was dissatisfied with their network coverage and asked them to de-activate my account. They agreed to and seeing I had the service for less than a month they "say" they will not charge me the deactivation penalty. I will be watching for it anyway "just in case."
The nice thing about the wifes Verizon device is it plugs into a usb hub on the side of either laptop and works the same, so portability is very nice. I have not tried to network the 2 laptops together yet as we are usually moving now and 1 drives while the other sleeps or plays online (lol).
I know this was an unscientific study but from my results I would recommend Verizon over ATT.
I Hope this has helped others that are considering purchasing an air card for their laptops.
Wolfsbane Thanks this.
