My husbands a new driver just out of school. He bought a truck and got a job with a local company, delivering in state.
If he wants to get his own authority. How long does he have to drive for this company before he can get insurance that will cover him without a company backing him up. Confused....... he has his own tractor insurance but the insurance co would not give it to him unless he worked for a company. Anybody please help.![]()

I don't think anyone on here is going to be able to answer your question. You need to call around and ask the insurance companies, it is up to them whether or not to write a policy and only they know what their requirements are.
It is different for every insurance company and in every state. All you can do is call around to get the requirements for different insurance companies. -
I'm a little confused with your question. I gather your DH is an Owner/Operator and will use his truck to haul trailers for a local company? And he is trying to get insurance? If I have this right ...
First, only a representative from the insurance company he's spoken to could answer the question you have. Further, he needs to shop the insurance.
I work for an Owner/Operator, and his insurance company would not approve me to drive any of his CLD vehciles for another year (I graduated and passed my A at the beginning of the year, and have a clean record). Other companies would write me, BUT, the companies that would were unaffordable for him. So for now, I must stick to the non-CDL trucks. -
When i first started looking for insurance they would only insure me if i had 5 years of experience in NY.i have heard of 21 yr olds getting insured but don't know what state he was in . Also he was paying 15000.00 per year with 2500.00 deductable.
