I know if you eat a lot of poppy seeds it may show a positive for opiates in the DOT drug test. Are there any other [LEGAL] herbs that may show a positive that drivers should be aware of? Even though you have to eat a lot of poppy seeds to show a positive, I gave them up because I don't need the stress of answering questions and also want to stay clear of other legal herbs that may show a positive (I stay totally away from anything illegal so that is not the question)

I have heard that mouthwash will cause a false positive on a BAC. Makes sense since it contains alcohol. Hence I only use it after shutting down, never before driving a vehicle. Thinking about it though, if you rinse throughly with water afterwards, would it negate the false positive?

Try mouth washer without alcohol ,all brands make it . then you have nothing to worry about....

You can use the search function, the question has been asked.
A short answer is while a test for any amount (10 panel for one) might show something, a standard, 5 panel DOT approved drug test probably won't. -
If mouthwash shows a BAC (blood alcohol content), on a breathalyzer, above 0.0 then request they draw a blood sample. Since you did not swallow, you will be cleared.

I wouldn't worry about the poppy seeds. The was a MRO I talked to made it sound, you'd have to eat like a pound of the things to test positive. I believe he said they raised the pass/fail threshold for opiods to eliminate any problems from poppy seeds.
NavigatorWife Thanks this.
