People must be desperate

There is some truth to that. When a carrier sets up contracts with customer, many times these kinds of things happen. Overall it works out. Not a terrible idea. If the carrier has only 25% of the customer's freight, and they do a few loads that are borderline on profit, they may garner a larger percentage of the overall freight in the next go around. Trucking is not exclusive to this kind of stuff. Suppliers to companies do similar things. Make a deal on one item they are supplying to garner more of the business. Or, for instance, say I am a contractor that puts in farm drainage tile and does other farm land improvements. There is a mega farmer in my area. I get a job to install drain tile on 120 of his acres. He comes to me later during the job and wants to have me remove a few trees. Now I know that he owns 2000 acres of farmland that also will need future work. So I offer to take out the trees while I am there for a substantially reduced rate, in the hopes that I garner the business to do improvements on the rest of his farm land. Welcome to doing business.

 

cowpie- help me out-I ship lobsters from our own boats. talked my family into shipping our own "bugs". our shipping long starts may to jan. sons are hauling the gear. long for me is ma. to Hollywood and Orlando fla. lets go by last season. boats get in mid season 2.75 lb.the highest price last dec was 3.00 boat price.when going south usually carry products for other company squid,shrimp,in shell scallops ect. this last run was 200 crates of bugs only. that's about 18,000 lbs. using 379 pete reefer unit. asked the family the "unthinkable". what are we getting for shipping? its all in the price.I make 1200.00 a week no matter what. the price to the customer was 12.00 lb. whith what I told you can you figure what the shipping was. Am I making any sence. losing it!!

 

Sitting and not taking some crappy cheap load that's grossing out verse taking that crappy cheap load grossed out and putting more wear and tear on the truck and not making money doing it. Sure if its a very short load to grab a great load than ok otherwise I am sitting and a no grand a day. It cost me the same to sit in my truck or at home. Matter of fact it cost me more to sit at my house. I will sit before running cheap freight and beating my truck up for nothing or next to nothing

 

Here is the real deal. There's no money in trucking anymore and for those who say there is -is telling a story. I'm ready for the reply on that statement!!LOL

 

That's not what the Prime recruiter told me.....

 

Today our younger generation believes that 500 bucks a week is good money..That is the problem.Everyone has a different ''definition'' of good money...For me to get out of bed and run my truck,i better be clearing 3,000 a week or i stay home..

I agree that there is not much money left in trucking.We have to many ''desperate'' drivers willing to work for slave wages and put up with alot of B/S.In NY some drivers call this industry the ''land of desperation''...

 

i don't know how it works out on the east yet. but i'm finding out that on the west. the good paying freight is usually out in the sticks and delivers to the sticks. or maybe it's just one stick.

most of the stuff in populated areas have been cheap. i even saw a load that paid $28 going 60 miles. for that kind of money on such a short distance. i would have just called the post office. they're hurting for cash.

 

The recruiter for TDI Driving School told me the money really comes in after I've been driving for 2 years.

I sometimes go to the dock looking for my ship to come in.

 

i had my ship once, last year. then it went sailing and left me behind.

 

how you make sure you stay at a good price and you don't go under it you just add up days time and fuel how would you do that
