A new calendar day always starts at midnight, but the carrier may, in fact, designate a start time other than midnight at their discretion.

No carrier that I've driven for uses anything other than midnight as the start of the new day. How about you?
-
That's irrelevant. The fact is a carrier may designate a start time other than midnight. Do you know for a fact what start time the OP's carrier has designated?
-
Well, since you are pushing the issue
The regs as you posted them from the FMCSA seems to me to indicate that the carrier must clearly define to the driver what time frame they are using for their terminal's start of day.
So, if that's the case and his start of day is any other period other than at midnight, seems to me the OP's carrier didn't do a very good job explaining to him "when" their home terminal day starts. -
I'm not the one "pushing the issue." I simply posted the regulations referencing some incorrect information. A new day (insofar as the carrier is concerned) does not "always start at midnight"... although the vast majority do.

Okay then, pardner. You have a good night...

Looks like the driver will have 7.25 hrs. to work the next day and after that he will pickup The 12.75 hrs. at midnight.
